Written by Boston Biker on Nov 01Who hit a cyclists on purpose and then drove off.
(From U-Hub)
Cambridge Police report they are looking for the driver of a pick-up they say swerved towards a bicyclist on Webster Street shortly after 7 a.m. on Sept. 29:
Just before the hit and run, the operator of the pickup yelled, honked his horn and then made contact with the bicyclist’s handle bar, causing him to fall.
The bicyclist, Geren Stone of Somerville, is a doctor at Mass. General. He required surgery for injuries to his left arm, police say.

Cyclist Killed In Hit And Run In Dorchester
Written by Boston Biker on May 20My deepest sympathies go out to this persons friends and family. This is a horrific tragedy.
————————-
A teenager on his bicycle was killed Tuesday after being hit by a car following a crash in Dorchester.
Two cars crashed at the intersection of Talbot and New England Streets. A young man on a bike was struck during the collision. One badly damaged BMW remained at the scene while the second car fled.
Police say they found the second car on Wednesday morning. The suspect and driver of that car, 27-year-old Gregory McCoy of Dorchester, was arrested on an unrelated warrant, but and charges were expected to be filed later on Wednesday in Dorchester District Court.
The charges include two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and one count of motor vehicle homicide. The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.
One witness, Cheline Garcia, says she heard the crash around 10 p.m. and rushed out to help. She performed CPR on the victim, who she said had a pulse but later died.
“The scene was just horrible. You can’t even explain how bad it was,” Garcia told FOX25. “He was breathing he didn’t know what was going on I told him the paramedics were on the way.”
Police continue to investigate. (via) (more video here)
More info when I get it.
EDIT:
They have released the victems name:
Prosecutors did not identify the teen, but family and friends identified him as Fritz Philogene, 18, a sophomore at West Roxbury High School. (via)

Cyclist Killed By Hit And Run In Charlestown
Written by Boston Biker on Apr 04Our sincerest thoughts go out to his family.
It seems they have found the garbage truck driver they think was involved in the crash. And charged them.
Update: Police have charged the driver of a sanitation truck who allegedly killed a cyclist and left the scene of the accident Thursday in Charlestown.
Ricky Prezioso, 41, of Swampscott, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident after causing death.(via)
From the BPD
At about 1:40pm, on Thursday, April 3, 2014, officers from District A-15 (Charlestown) responded to a call for a pedestrian struck in the area of Cambridge & Spice Streets in Charlestown. On arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from what appeared to be life threatening injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident and is asking for the public’s help in an effort to locate and identify a vehicle seen leaving the area shortly after the accident. The vehicle in question is described as a sanitation truck, white in color with black lettering.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Boston Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470.
Community members wishing to assist this investigation anonymously can do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1(800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department will stringently guard and protect the identities of all those who wish to help this investigation anonymously.
Charlestown has a history of being less than amenable to cycling safety improvements. And this horrible tragedy comes on the same day that the MassBike and WalkBoston are introducing a cyclist/pedestrian safety bill.
I am deeply saddened that one of our own has been killed. More information when I get it.
EDIT:
Some pictures from the scene, does anyone know this bicycle?
EDIT: Warning this might make you hate all humanity.
The Swampscott garbage truck driver who fatally struck a bicyclist in Charlestown allegedly told Boston police that he did not know he had struck someone with his vehicle, and completed his trash pickup a few feet from where the bicyclists crumpled body was found.
The name of the bicyclist has not been released.
Ricky Prezioso, 41, today pleaded not guilty to one count of leaving the scene of an accident after causing death in Charlestown Municipal Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash and Judge Lawrence McCormick refused to ban him from driving.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His crumpled bike was found by police on Spice Street close to the Cambridge Street intersection; his body was about 10 feet further down Spice Street and remained there for several hours while police collected forensic information.
….
Prezioso’s attorney, William Cintolo, said that his client was not responsible for the fatal incident.
“Instead of the truck hitting the bike, the bike hit the truck,’’ Cintolo said. “There is not one scintilla of evidence that there was anything negligent about his operation.”
Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Ian Leson asked for $15,000 cash bail and that Prezioso be held without bail for an assault and battery case in Woburn District Court from last year.
Leson also asked the judge to suspend Prezioso’s right to drive.
But Cintolo told the judge that Prezioso supports his three children who live in Everett, as well as his fiance’s three children who live in Swampscott.
McCormick said he was convinced by Cintolo’s argument that Prezioso should be allowed to continue to earn a living behind the wheel.
“If he’s dependent upon his position to keep six children fed and clothed, I don’t find it necessary to prevent him from doing that,’’ the judge said from the bench.
You can read the rest here…its pretty depressing. Like they say, if you want to murder someone wait until they get onto a bicycle.
EDIT:
A better picture of the bike, anyone know who this is?
EDIT:
UHub is reporting that the victim was a 30 yar old man from Chelsea, but his name has not been released yet.
EDIT:
UHub is reporting that the victim was Owen McGrory, 30, of Chelsea.

Fatal Hit And Run In Wellesley
Written by Boston Biker on Aug 24This is horrible, a man in his 40’s was killed today in Wellesley.
It looks like he was riding a black carbon specialized, or at least that is what it looks like to me. If anyone has any information about this please leave it in the comments. There is also a helmet in some of the photos, but the wheels appear to have been moved over to the fence? For a bike to crack up this badly it must have been hit with a far amount of force. My best wishes go out to his family and friends. This is criminal, and whoever did this needs to be brought to justice.
More info when I get it.
EDIT: The comments hold a lot of updates, reprinted here:
Thanks for wandering woman on wheels for all the updates.

Hit And Run In Norwood Friday, Driver Turns Himself In
Written by Boston Biker on Jun 05This is most peoples worst fears…but thankfully doesn’t happen that often. I hope this guy makes a full recovery.
A bicyclist seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver in Norwood Friday night has been identified as Dr. James Kolton. Kolton, a doctor at Norwood Hospital, lives in Boston and normally rides his bike to and from work. Police say on Friday night around 9 p.m., Kolton was riding northbound on Route 1A when a car slammed into his bike. Investigators say Kolton was wearing and a fluorescent vest and also had a light on his bike at the time. He was also wearing a helmet. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
“A lot of broken bones,” Norwood Police Chief William Brooks told WBZ-TV’s Jim Smith. “We understand a broken pelvis and broken ribs, but he is going to survive.”
The driver initially took off from the scene, but turned himself into police Saturday morning. “This morning the man turned himself in, said he thought he hit something last night,” Chief Brooks said. The car involved in the crash had significant damage, including a smashed windshield. Police referred to the bike as being “demolished.” Police have not identified the driver, but said they planned to charge him with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in serious personal injury.
Thanks Matt for the heads up.
