Fatal Hit And Run In Wellesley

Written by Boston Biker on Aug 24

This is horrible, a man in his 40′s was killed today in Wellesley.

More info here, and here.

It looks like he was riding a black carbon specialized, or at least that is what it looks like to me. If anyone has any information about this please leave it in the comments. There is also a helmet in some of the photos, but the wheels appear to have been moved over to the fence? For a bike to crack up this badly it must have been hit with a far amount of force. My best wishes go out to his family and friends. This is criminal, and whoever did this needs to be brought to justice.

More info when I get it.

EDIT: The comments hold a lot of updates, reprinted here:

Thanks for wandering woman on wheels for all the updates.

“The bicyclist who died after a hit and run crash in Wellesley yesterday has been identified by authorities as Alexander Motsenigos, 41, of Wellesley, according to a statement from Wellesley police and the Norfolk District Attorney’s office.

Motsenigos was headed north on his bike on Weston Road at 1:58 p.m. when he was hit by a car, authorities said. The car then fled the scene, and was last seen headed north on Weston Road, according to the statement.

Motsenigos suffered serious injuries, and was pronounced dead at Newton Wellesley Hospital, authorities said, adding that Motsenigos was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The father of a 6-year-old boy, Motsenigos was an avid sportsman, including completing three marathons this year. He worked as a vice president at International Data Corp.

“The world has lost a special man. Our heart is broken but has room for forgiveness. Please if you have information that will help us grieve with our loss, do come forward,” his family said in a statement.

Authorities continue to look for the driver of the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation, and Wellesley police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call 781-235-1212.”

Oh, good God, this video says the cyclist was dragged about 10-20 feet! I am horrified, and fighting back tears that someone could do this and leave the scene!

This is so upsetting. News report from folks who knew the cyclist was that he lived on that stretch of road and was on his way home and that police are looking for a red and black pickup truck with front end damage. This person needs to be found and brought to justice! Living in the suburbs myself, I find drivers aren’t as attentive as they are in the city. I’ve had a few close calls with being sideswiped and each time I see the driver with their iPhone in one hand driving…..WTF! My thoughts are with his family and may he rest in peace.
