Join us, the Boston Transportation Department, for a public meeting about Beacon St
Monday, June 12 | 6:00 pm

700 Boylston St | Commonwealth SalonWe have developed a concept design based on the feedback that we received from you and other community members last year. We collected input via a public meeting that was held in June, and a community survey that was conducted after that meeting.

At the meeting, we will

  • share information about the four design alternatives that we considered
  • review the proposed redesign, and give you the opportunity to see the details

We hope that you will

  • share the meeting information with your neighbors, download a flyer here
  • join us to discuss the plan with your neighbors
  • give us your feedback so that we can incorporate it into the design; if you can’t attend, be on the lookout for information on how to give feedback after the meeting

Hubway Expanding To 70 More Locations

Hubway will add more than 70 bike-rental stations over the next two years to the 127 it already operates in Boston, under a new contract with the city of Boston, Mayor Walsh’s office said today.

Currently unserved areas in Roslindale, Dorchester and Mattapan will get new Hubway stations under the terms of a new contract negotiated by Boston with Motivate International, the system’s parent company. Hubway will also add additional stations in existing service areas to better handle demand – and add new stations in Cambridge, Somerville and Brookline.

Work to come up with specific new locations will begin with public meetings this summer, the mayor’s office said.

Boston’s Bike To Work Day Festival, Women’s Classes, And Public Meetings

BOSTON’S NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY FESTIVAL ONFRIDAY, MAY 19TH!

Celebrate Bike Month at Boston’s National Bike to Work Day Festival! This year’s event will again be full of bike-friendly exhibitors. Clif Bar, High Brew Coffee, Iggy’s Bread, and Whole Foods – Charles River Plaza will offer riders free breakfast.

Join your neighbors on convoys headed to Boston City Hall for the festival on Friday, May 19th. They come from all across the greater-Boston area and are a great way to make new friends or get used to riding downtown. Sign up today to volunteer to lead a convoy near you!

WOMEN’S LEARN-TO-RIDE CLASSES

Our Women’s Learn-to-Ride classes are back this year! We’ll hold classes every month from May through September. Our free classes are taught by women and are for anyone who identifies as a woman. Our experienced staff and volunteers will help each participant gain the skills and confidence to get on a bike and keep rolling! Bikes provided upon request. Intro to Street Riding classes are for women who have the basic skills like starting, stopping and turning, but want to build their confidence riding on the street. They are generally held right after Basic Skills classes. If you are attending a preceding Basic Skills class, you do not need to register separately for the Intro to Street Riding.

BOSTON STUDENTS HAVE FUN, LEARN SKILLS
Students at the McKay School practice their riding skills during our Fall 2016 Youth Cycling Program session.

Our Youth Cycling Program in Boston Public Schools is off to a great start this spring! We teach bicycle skills to youth across the City. Students take part in lessons and fun activities, which help them build the skills they need to be confident while biking.

This spring, we’ll bring a fleet of bikes to 10 schools. By the end of the school year, we’ll have reached over 3,000 students. Since 2009, we’ve worked with over 35,000 Boston youth.

Residents give feedback on potential interventions at a public meeting about Beacon St.

Boston.gov, the City’s new website makes it easy for you to find out about events and meetings happening in your community. Visit boston.gov/transportation and scroll to the Upcoming Events section to learn more about transportation-related community meetings and events.

We hope you’ll join us at the Rutherford Ave meeting on May 18th. We anticipate public meetings about the South Bay Harbor Trail and Beacon Street soon. Once the details are finalized, we’ll add the information to the website.

Hubway Update

And now the Cities of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, and the Town of Brookline are asking you to select the winner of the 2017 Hubway Data Challange presented by Microsoft People’s Choice Award. That winner will receive a prize package valued at over $1,400! Some entries are beautiful, some are clever, and at least one is very funny. Review each entry and link before making your choice, and complete your ballot by Tuesday, April 18th, 11:59 PM. One voter will win a free Hubway annual membership!

Hubway Valet Service: More docks at select locations
From mid-April to mid-September, Hubway offers Valet Service for expanded dock availability at high volume stations during peak usage times. These stations will be staffed by a friendly Hubway Ambassador to help you with any Hubway-related question, and allowing the station to operate at increased dock capacity. That means more room for your your bike! Details here.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: PLAN: South Boston, Dorchester Avenue zoning process will translate community values and guidelines outlined in the December 2016 BPDA Board approved Plan into updated zoning for the corridor along Dorchester Avenue between Andrew Square and Broadway stations. The approved planning document was developed through a 17 month long public engagement process that incorporated the input of the community members, City departments and state agencies and established a framework for implementation of community’s vision. The zoning session on May 2, 2017 is an opportunity to learn about the Plan and to have a discussion about zoning process as it relates to PLAN: South Boston, Dorchester Avenue.
