New Bike Lanes In Brighton
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 16Got this in the email, anyone got pics yet? Thanks Jenny for the tip!
—————-
I saw outlines for bike lanes being put down in Brighton Center on Washington St!
EDIT: Got more updates! Thanks Ron!
There are new bike lanes in Brighton – one is on Chestnut Hill Ave, northbound, between Commonwealth Ave and Beacon Street.
The other is on Lake Street between Commonwealth Ave and Lake Shore Road. It is only on the first half of Lake Street where they paved over the summer. It starts off as a bike lane, then by the first entrance to Undine Road the seperated line disappears and sharrows appears. The bike lane re-appears by the entrance to St John’s Seminary (before the hill) and then disappears completely (no bike lane nor sharrows) when you get to the bottom of the hill.
EDIT: Ron sent and update to his update! Its all good Ron, thanks for the second update.
Made a mistake in my comment to you earlier. There are actually sharrows on Chestnut Hill Ave and not a full bike lane. Sorry about that!

Fatal Crash On Comm. Ave. In Brighton
Written by Boston Biker on Aug 10Edit: It seems the young lady later died of her injuries.
At about 4:17pm, on Monday, August 9, 2010, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) responded to a radio call for an accident involving a bicyclist being struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Warren Street and Commonwealth Ave. On arrival, officers located and observed a 24 year-old female victim being attended to and treated by EMS. The female victim, suffering from life threatening injuries, was transported to the Brigham & Women’s Hospital where she later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
AB Bikes, and others have reported a potential fatal crash on Comm. Ave. last night, anyone have details?
I’ve been hearing reports of a bad bike accident, yesterday evening at the intersection of Kelton St and Comm Ave. There is nothing official yet, but you can read reports/tweets here: http://www.universalhub.com/2010/bicyclist-hit-car-brighton
From what I’ve heard, she was a 24 years old, no helmet, wearing headphones, who may have run a red light. The driver apparently had the right of way. Again, the reports are unverified.
Be careful out there. I will post more details as I get them.
Edit: Lots of reports of a lot of blood in the street from the accident, but I still cant confirm a fatality…I think we can be sure it was a lady, thats about all I can confirm at this point.
Edit: Here is the location of the crash, Kelton and Comm. Ave.
EDIT: Just got off the phone with the cops, they say they don’t have any fatalities recorded for yesterday involving a bicyclist, so hopefully that means that the young lady survived.
EDIT: Here is a picture of the bike at the scene. Pink and purple step through frame. Looks geared, and with brakes (aka, this wasn’t a fixed gear bicycle).
Edit: The globe seems to have finally noticed, no new info however.
Edit: More info about the young lady who died Marlene “Marly” Pineda here.

Cyclist Hit, Potentially Killed Not Dead In Brighton (Updates Below)
Written by Boston Biker on Mar 15 I am getting reports that someone (larger guy with blue bike) was hit and maybe killed by a camry running a red light while on a cellphone on Stratmore St in Brighton, the report I got was that there was a lot of blood and that the cyclist didn’t get up. Does anyone know anything about this? I will continue to update this post with details.
To all the drivers out there, pay attention, your moment of inattention might transform you from a motorist to a murderer. To all the cyclists out there, keep your head on a swivel, paying attention is always a good idea.
EDIT: I called the cops,
They informed me that the person was in fact struck by a car, but DID NOT die. Which is great. I can only hope they heal up fast. If anyone wants more info they need to go to the police headquarters on Ruggles and request the info, as they apparently don’t give out more details over the phone for some odd reason.
EDIT 2: Jesse (thats his name) Is ok! (see comments below).
You can also follow his progress at rehab here. We all hope you heal up fast.
