Two More Awesome Winter Riders
Written by Boston Biker on Jan 08Jen looking toasty warm on her -25 wind chill commute this morning!
And Gloria looking classy with her city bike! (impressive cargo capacity!)
I still have several books left! Send in your winter riding pictures!
It was cold (like eye lashes frozen cold) this morning, but I rode, and so did a lot of other folks! Like they say, no such thing as bad weather, only poor clothing choices. If you are still riding what is your setup?

Baby It’s Cold Outside! (Book Give Away Mini Contest)
Written by Boston Biker on Jan 06
Brrrrrrrrrr! Damn its cold out! But that didn’t stop the dozens and dozens of cyclists I saw this morning from getting out there and riding. Sure they probably are not going for leisure rides, but they are out there and they looked happy!
In the interest in getting rid of a bunch of cycling books I have, and in giving you all something to read while you wait for it to warm up I am going to have a mini-contest.
MINI CONTEST RULES!
The first 6 people to either send me a picture of themselves dressed in their full winter riding garb ([email protected]), or link to a picture of themselves in full winter riding garb in the comments gets a free random cycling book. The books range from fitness books, to novels, to coffee table books, the names will be put in a hat and hat science used to determine who gets what book.
I will be posting the pictures here, so everyone can see what total awesome bad asses you are 🙂

The Most Bad Ass Thing That Happened To Me Today
Written by Boston Biker on Jan 08On my way to work one of my tears (from the cold air) FROZE and fell off my eye as a solid object, tinkling off my bike as it fell to the ground. I have never been more of a bad ass than right then.
Frozen tears aside, my glove, scarf, hat setup is pretty flawless and I was totally warm and happy. I saw tones of other folks riding today, so I know I am not the only one. What is your glove/hat/shoe set up? What did you wear to keep toasty, what failed on you? What was your most bad ass moment in the cold?
Share your thoughts in the comments so others can follow your good example.

Its Cold, Its Raining, And The Wind Is Blowing
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 04Photo from: Annemiek van der Kuil | http://www.photoa.nl
I might also add that I have a horrible head cold…
But you know what I saw today on my ride in? About a million cyclists! We have hit some sort of critical point in Boston, a point at which people are riding year round even in the crappiest of days. Good job Boston, and good job cyclists.
I am not saying that everyone has to ride every day in every kind of weather, but when I see other people pushing through the wind and the rain it tells me that we have reached a certain point in our transition towards a bike friendly Boston.
People who will ride in weather like this are a small percentage of the larger “cyclist pool”. So if you see a lot of people riding in the rain and you know they are a pretty small percentage of the entire group, you know that group has gotten pretty big.
We are becoming a real honest to goodness movement. Both in the literal sense (bikes are all about movement), and also in the sense that we are becoming a statistically significant percentage of the people using the streets.
So when you see your fellow cyclist pushing through the rain, give them a nod of the helmet, and a smile. From the looks of things you might have a fair number of people to smile at. Stay dry folks, and have fun in the rain. Make sure to have some nice hot chocolate ready when you get home, and be extra careful (people seem to drive even worse in the rain).
