Local Crazy Man Rides Bike Down I-93

Written by Boston Biker on Nov 07

Apparently local bicycle celebrity Lucas Brunelle rode his bike down 93 today durring rush hour…I just hope he got it on film.

A bicyclist from Martha’s Vineyard is facing a trespassing charge after pedaling on the highway during rush hour near Boston this morning, State Police said.

At about 8:30 a.m., several 911 callers reported a man riding his bicycle on I-93 northbound, near Exit 11 in Milton, said Trooper Todd Nolan, a State Police spokesman.

Lucas Brunelle, 40, of Vineyard Haven was given a criminal summons and told not to ride on the highway again, Nolan said.(via)

If you are not familiar with Mr. Brunelle’s body of work, check it out here.

Dont Miss This Years Halloween Bike Ride

Written by Boston Biker on Oct 19

This thing gets bigger and better every year! Come in costume, and be prepared to see some amazing things. Last years event was awesome, as was the years before, its a great time!

From their website.

———————–

The Halloween Bike Ride is a community celebration of Halloween and bicycles that brings together people from all parts of the city. We costume our bicycles and ourselves and ride together through the streets of Boston, Brookline, and Cambridge. The slow-paced ride covers about 18 miles as it meanders from the Green Street T Station in Jamaica Plain to Kenmore Square, Coolidge Corner, Harvard Square, Central Square, Inman Square, Copley Plaza, and back to Jamaica Plain. The route changes slightly from year to year, and may change on the night of the ride based on road conditions, and sometimes the whim of the Ride Leader. The ride is friendly, open to all, and a great way to spend Halloween Night!

The Halloween Bike Ride was started in 2000 by Chris Huggins, a bicycle enthusiast with a knack for D.I.Y. projects. His stereo bike, and later invention of the stereo bicycle trailer, has provided the rides with a steady rhythm and great fun! In 2008, Chris moved out of state and left this event in the hands of several volunteers who have sworn to keep alive the tradition of the Halloween Bike Ride. In keeping with the spirit of rides past, this year we will have a soundtrack guaranteed to keep you moving, pumped out of an updated stereo trailer that will be better than ever! So get your costume and bicycle ready for the best night of the year, Halloween!

Come join us for a scary ride through Greater Boston!

19th Annual Tour de Somerville: “Arts In The ‘Ville”

Written by Boston Biker on Sep 29

Another fun event in Somerville

——————————

The Somerville Bicycle Committee invites you to ride our 19th Annual Tour de Somerville.  This year’s theme is “Arts in the ‘Ville”.
We’ll meet at 10 am on Saturday, October 15 in Seven Hills Park, behind the Holland Street MBTA entrance in Davis Square. We will depart promptly at 10:15.

The tour will ride by places throughout Somerville where art is produced, exhibited, or performed.  We’ll get off our bikes to visit the new Artisan’s Asylum (home base to Somerville’s SCUL art-bike gang), the new Mudflat, and Fringe at Olive Square.  We’ll also briefly stop by several artists’ studio buildings where Open Studios will occur later this fall: BrickbottomJoy StreetVernon Street, and Washington Street Art Center.

More information will be available at http://SomervilleBikes.org/events.html .

A tentative route map, showing all* of the Somerville art-related places we’re aware of, is at http://goo.gl/NpP19 .  (
A ride poster is at http://goo.gl/Cgr5R (PDF) or  http://goo.gl/dP8fC (JPG)
If there is steady rain on Saturday, we’ll postpone the ride to Sunday, October 16, same starting place and time.
(* We think that our map lists every Somerville art-related place that isn’t a private residence.  If we’ve overlooked something important, please reply to [email protected] and let us know what we’ve left out.)
