Tour De Somerville

Written by Boston Biker on Oct 17

The “Tour’s De” just keep rolling with the Tour De Somerville!

——-

This Saturday, October 19th,  the Somerville Bicycle Committee holds its
21st annual Tour de Somerville.

This year’s theme is “Over, Under, Around, and Through”, featuring the
city’s many bridges, tunnels, overpasses, and underpasses. We know of at
least 40, which is a lot for a city of just 4 square miles. Our tour route
will cross, or at least pass by, as many of these as possible.

Meet at 10 am at Seven Hills Park, behind the Holland Street MBTA entrance
in Davis Square. We’ll depart promptly at 10:15. The ride will be about 13
miles long, mostly flat, and will end by 1 pm.

Somerville police will help escort the ride. We will have a rest and
refreshment stop about halfway through, at Blessing of the Bay Boathouse on
Shore Drive, with snacks from Redbones.

The tour will visit the sites of two bike path projects now under
construction: the Somerville Community Path extension between Cedar and
Lowell Streets, and the Wellington Undercarriage (a new boardwalk under
Route 28, linking the Mystic River paths at Assembly Square to Shore
Drive).

In case of steady rain, we’ll postpone the ride to Sunday, October 20, same
starting place and time.

A tentative route map is at http://goo.gl/maps/EYBJG . Because the route
passes through many construction projects, it is subject to change, even at
the last minute.

Written by Boston Biker on Sep 29

Another fun event in Somerville

——————————

The Somerville Bicycle Committee invites you to ride our 19th Annual Tour de Somerville.  This year’s theme is “Arts in the ‘Ville”.
We’ll meet at 10 am on Saturday, October 15 in Seven Hills Park, behind the Holland Street MBTA entrance in Davis Square. We will depart promptly at 10:15.

The tour will ride by places throughout Somerville where art is produced, exhibited, or performed.  We’ll get off our bikes to visit the new Artisan’s Asylum (home base to Somerville’s SCUL art-bike gang), the new Mudflat, and Fringe at Olive Square.  We’ll also briefly stop by several artists’ studio buildings where Open Studios will occur later this fall: BrickbottomJoy StreetVernon Street, and Washington Street Art Center.

More information will be available at http://SomervilleBikes.org/events.html .

A tentative route map, showing all* of the Somerville art-related places we’re aware of, is at http://goo.gl/NpP19 .  (
A ride poster is at http://goo.gl/Cgr5R (PDF) or  http://goo.gl/dP8fC (JPG)
If there is steady rain on Saturday, we’ll postpone the ride to Sunday, October 16, same starting place and time.
(* We think that our map lists every Somerville art-related place that isn’t a private residence.  If we’ve overlooked something important, please reply to [email protected] and let us know what we’ve left out.)

Got this in the mail today.

—————

The Somerville Bicycle Committee will hold the 18th annual Tour de Somerville on Saturday, October 16. This year’s theme is “Paths, Present and Future: A Mystic River Ramble”.

This bike tour will explore current and proposed off-road paths in and near Somerville, especially those along Alewife Brook and the Mystic River.

Meet at 10 am at Seven Hills Park, behind the Holland Street MBTA entrance in Davis Square. We will depart promptly at 10:15.

The Somerville Police Department will help escort the ride, and Redbones will provide refreshments at a rest stop.

In case of steady rain, we’ll try again on Sunday, September 17, same starting time and location.

Further information will be posted here. A tentative route map is here.

(Note: Some of the off-road route is unpaved and may be difficult for bikes with very narrow tires.)
