Jackson Sq. Playground Will Effect South West Corridor Bike Path
Written by Boston Biker on Apr 07Got this in the email, from the DCR. I am pretty sure we cyclists will be just fine, but good to have a heads up.
————
Wanted to let you know about a project that’s coming on line, the Jackson Sq Playground construction. It’s a pretty cool effort, with substantial financial support of private partner Boston Children’s Hospital, and their Urban Renewal Committee. If construction goes according to schedule, (roughly 8-10 weeks) we should have it open in early Summer. The project is slated to get underway on Monday the 8th.
One construction impact will affect the SW Corridor bike path, which we know is a major commuter and transportation node for bikers coming into and out of the area. We’re going to need to combine the separated path into one for the duration of the project (roughly 8-10 weeks). In addition, construction vehicles will be active in the area, necessitating periodic path closures. There will be a police detail (2 officers) on the site to direct traffic.
I’ve attached the information we presented at a recent public meeting. It’s got more detail regarding budget, design, and other issues (landscaping, staging, etc.)…along with pictures and maps. There are also slides outlining the temporary path realignment.
