Urban Foraging And Bike Tour TONIGHT
Written by Boston Biker on Jun 14Last minute, but you could run over after work and it looks awesome.
——————–
Friday, June 14th, 5:30 pm
Nick Woebske and Galen Mook lead a bike tour at dusk around the perimeter of the Alewife Reservation. Edible plant expert David Craft, will educate riders on the vast amount of edible plants in the area at periodic stops. David has authored books on foraging, and does walks through out the Boston area.
Galen Mook is a bicycle instructor and ride-leader in the greater Boston area, with several years of experience working with Boston Bikes, the City of Cambridge, MassBike, and his own non-profit CommonWheels. He leads rides in and around the region (sometimes with musical accompaniment when he’s on his “drum bike”) and he truly enjoys showing off the area’s bike-ability to those who may be new to biking in an urban setting. For this event, he will be leading a casual, slow-paced and organized tour of the reservation, including a picnic at the end of the trip.
Bring a small snack and water bottle for picnic.
Sponsored by the Friends of Alewife Reservation. Participants will meet at the at the passenger pickup of the Alewife T-stop in Cambridge. Visit www.friendsofalewifereservation.org for updated information or call (617) 415-1884.

Alewife Bike Paths Completed And Open
Written by Boston Biker on Aug 20Seems the new Alewife bike paths are open and ready for you to walk/ride them. Its been great seeing the network of paths and lanes grow over the last couple years. Lets hope that it all continues to grow and connect. At some point the network will be “complete” enough that your average person will consider it good enough to use, at that point the rapidly growing number of new riders will begin to grow at an exponential rate. Plus these paths look really classy!
Local super tipster Ron sent in this awesome report:

This Just In: Bike Cages Cause Everyone To Freak Out
Written by Boston Biker on Sep 17So two things, one I got an email saying the new bike cages at Alewife will not be open till 10am on Thursday and that anyone who gets there before then will be given a special bicycle Charlie card (so thats still good).
It would seem that people have a hard time with me wanting to keep the pressure on the MBTA. I was in no way saying that opening up the cages was bad, or that they are bad for doing it. I was trying to point out that we should pack the things the first day so we get good press coverage which will convince anyone at the head of the MBTA that isn’t already convinced that these sort of improvements are wanted, and needed.
Lets pack the cages and show the MBTA that more bike infrastructure means more business for the T!
You may now return to your regularly scheduled snarkyness.
