Help DotBike Close The Gap
Written by Boston Biker on Mar 03Anyone who has ridden down the coast knows there is a big gap in the otherwise pretty decent off road bicycle trail there (in front of the big gas tank). Help DotBike close the gap!
And for those of you who didn’t know about this trail, check it out sometime! Dorchester has a lot of nice riding to be had, get yourself down there!
Hi Dot Bikers,
An update on an exciting project that is currently underway regarding the Dorchester Coast Trail (aka “The Missing Link” between Greenway in Port Norfolk and Harborwalk at UMass Boston). As you probably know
this is one of Dot Bike’s highest priority advocacy projects as this connection would link two of the already great bike routes that follow much of the Dorchester Coast creating a fabulous and safe off road path along Dorchester Bay and beyond. This January a group of graduate students in the Tufts University Urban and Environmental Planning program started a research project sponsored by the DCR to explore options and issues regarding creating this crucial link. The result of this project will include materials that will be useful to move forward on the next steps in the process.
You can help them and us by completing a short online survey available here
And please share this link with others you may know who live near the trail/gap or are Neponset Greenway/Harbor Walk users.
The students are visiting some neighborhood associations this and next month so be on the lookout as they may be coming to your association’s meeting.
And a coalition including DotBike, BNAN, the BCU and DEHC are planning to co-sponsor a community meeting to hear what the group has been working on and provide input and feedback. This will take place in late March/early April so stay tuned for details on this important public meeting.
You can find more info on the missing link by checking out the advocacy section of our newly redesigned web site at www.dotbike.org

Give Matt A Hand
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 06Anyone know any info that could help this guy out?
——
hi, I am a longtime area resident but new to biking.
I ride in from the south with MIT as my destination. This morning I came in on the Washington St. bike lane to the Pierre Lallement trail and then to Columbus Street. I turned left on Mass Ave and crossed the bridge. All was wonderful except for Mass Ave, which was somewhat terrifying for a first-timer like me.
On the way home I instead crossed the Longfellow Park bridge, and then took Charles St. to Dartmouth and then back to the Columbus Street bike lane. Neither Charles nor Dartmouth was as scary as Mass Ave but still not great.
I’m wondering, are there other/better ways to get from Columbus to the bridges? Alternatively, I could come up the Jamaicaway bike path and try to get to the B.U. bridge (once it reopens) though I don’t know the best connection to do that.
Thanks for any advice!
Matt

Calling All Cargo Bikes!
Written by Boston Biker on Jun 09Meridith emailed me looking for people who wanted to help her bike move. Seems like a great way to have fun (I know I had fun with the last bike move I did) and FREE PIZZA AND BEER!!!
See below for details.
——
Bike Move, Saturday, June 20th, 3pm, Jamaica Plain: I’m intrigued and inspired to attempt a bicycle move from my current place to the one I’m moving to 1/2 mile away in JP. I’m looking for a group of motivated bicyclists to help make this move happen. I’m also looking for the equipment necessary to pull it off, i.e. bike trailers and straps. I’ll hire movers to do the lifting up and down the stairs, and will provide pizza and beer on the other end! If you are interested in helping with this, or have equipment we could use, or suggestions for how to pull it off, please contact me: [email protected]. It would also be great to find someone to film this if we are able to pull it off!!
