Help DotBike Close The Gap

Written by Boston Biker on Mar 03

Anyone who has ridden down the coast knows there is a big gap in the otherwise pretty decent off road bicycle trail there (in front of the big gas tank). Help DotBike close the gap!

And for those of you who didn’t know about this trail, check it out sometime! Dorchester has a lot of nice riding to be had, get yourself down there!

Hi Dot Bikers,

An update on an exciting project that is currently underway regarding the Dorchester Coast Trail (aka “The Missing Link” between Greenway in Port Norfolk and Harborwalk at UMass Boston). As you probably know
this is one of Dot Bike’s highest priority advocacy projects as this connection would link two of the already great bike routes that follow much of the Dorchester Coast creating a fabulous and safe off road path along Dorchester Bay and beyond.

This January a group of graduate students in the Tufts University Urban and Environmental Planning program started a research project sponsored by the DCR to explore options and issues regarding creating this crucial link. The result of this project will include materials that will be useful to move forward on the next steps in the process.

You can help them and us by completing a short online survey available here

And please share this link with others you may know who live near the trail/gap or are Neponset Greenway/Harbor Walk users.

The students are visiting some neighborhood associations this and next month so be on the lookout as they may be coming to your association’s meeting.

And a coalition including DotBike, BNAN, the BCU and DEHC are planning to co-sponsor a community meeting to hear what the group has been working on and provide input and feedback. This will take place in late March/early April so stay tuned for details on this important public meeting.

You can find more info on the missing link by checking out the advocacy section of our newly redesigned web site at www.dotbike.org
