Give A Better City A Hand Collecting Craigie Bridge Information

Written by Boston Biker on Oct 25

The good folks at ABC are trying to keep tabs on the Craigie Bridge construction (which PS. starts next Friday).

Got this in the email

————

Dear Boston bicycle and pedestrian community,

Anybody commute or ride regularly on the Craigie Bridge? If so, can you get in touch with me? Here’s what I’m trying to find out:

1. Start and Destination?
2. Do you take an alternative bridge / route?
3. The construction on the Craigie is starting the night of Friday, Nov. 5th. Like the BU bridge, the Craigie is supposed to remain open to bikes and peds throughout construction. Can someone confirm this?

A Better City is working on a bridge construction / traffic advisory website for all forms of transportation. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I assume you can contact them here or you can leave them in the comments here and I will have them take a look.

BU Bridge To Be Shut Down For A Bit

Written by Boston Biker on Jan 08

This just in from BUBikes

This just in from the Department of Conservation and Recreation:

On Jan 8-9, Thursday night to Friday morning, 10 pm to 5 am, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) crews will be making repairs to the BU Bridge sidewalks. During the work, both Cambridge-to-Boston lanes will be closed, and the only traffic allowed to cross in that direction will be Boston-bound MBTA or Boston University buses. All other traffic from Cambridge to Boston will be detoured to the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge.

So, if you plan to ride the BU Bridge, be aware.

that’s all – we’ll keep you updated on anything else that comes our way.

Yes thats right, you just witnessed the rare double “this just in.” Something to tell the grandkids about.

BU Bridge Construction, Bikers Take Notice

Written by Boston Biker on May 21

BU Bridge Boston

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) started work this week to replace both sidewalks on the Boston University Bridge, which crosses the Charles River between Cambridge and Boston.

Work is being done on one sidewalk at a time, beginning with the upstream, Cambridge-to- Boston, side. During the construction, the sidewalk and adjacent traffic lane will be closed, and pedestrians will be detoured to the other sidewalk. Work on both sides is expected to take about three months. Message boards have been installed at each end of the bridge advising motorists of the construction and lane restrictions.

In addition, during the work, the bike/pedestrian path that passes under the bridge on the Boston side will be closed beginning May 20th from 8 PM – 4 AM each night, until further notice. Signs posted at the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge and River Street Bridge in Boston will direct pathway users to cross the river to Memorial Drive as an alternative route.

The DCR contact for this project is Wendy Fox (617-626-1453).
