New Stats Program
Written by Boston Biker on Jan 15The old way of keeping track of how many people were visiting your site unfortunately isn’t compatible with the upgrades. So instead you can now use Google Analytics to keep track of your visitors, simply get an account, then go to to the settings->Google Analytics section of your dashboard and put in the required information.
This will provide you with much much more accurate data, than the previous solution did, and will make the site run faster.

Click the shop link at the top of the page and feast your eyes on our current offerings (some sweet stickers), more items will be showing up shortly (including headbadges with the option to get custom work done). At some point in the future we will also be offering the option for BostonBiker.org bloggers to use the store to sell their own items, but we will get to that in the future.
The system is very simple, and it has instructions, but if anything gets broken, or if you need help contact me.
If you have any suggestions please do leave them in the comments below.

Stopping Spammers
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 18You might not realize it but evil spammers love to sign up for blogs witch they only use for evil. Evil I tell you! I am going to be rolling out some new spam blocking techniques over the next couple of days. The problem is that these methods might catch a couple real people who want a real bostonbiker.org account. If you are one of these real people that seem to have been caught in these spam blocking methods you can contact me and I will fix it for you. Otherwise if you are a dirty spammer please go away, no one likes you.

Contact Forms For Your Blog
Written by Boston Biker on Sep 17You may have noticed the ever so fun contact form we use here at BostonBiker.org to let you the unwashed Cycling masses tell us all your thoughts, submit events, and in general keep me up to date on all things bike (thanks by the way, reader submissions are awesome!).
But what if you want a similar awesome form on your own blog?! Now you can. I have (hopefully if all went correct) turned on the Contact form plug-in for each of your blogs, simply go to the settings drop down in the backend, click on Contact form ][ (the name of the contact form plug-in) set it up how you like, then use the little “insert contact form” button to put the form into any page or post, for instance the one below.
Neat right! Let me know if you have any problems.
EDIT: Seems that it might be a bit hard to get the “insert contact form” button to show up if you are using the visual text editor (which can be set on or off in your profile) so if you are using the visual text editor simply type the following into your post/page to get the contact form to show up CONTACT-FORM surrounded by {}’s {like-this} obviously if I write CONTACT-FORM with the {}’s around them it will just put another contact form in this post…but you get the idea.

The Word On The Street
Here is what people are saying
loving the East Bay Rail Trail from Providence to Bristol
From the blog: Westwood Biker On: 2010-03-20 23:05:46a beautiful 30-mile round trip ride alongside the Narrangassett Bay. just love it. fairly flat too, though with a reasonable # of road crossings. ...Read this article.

From the blog: Boston Biker On: 2010-03-20 14:15:32Cyclostat has come up with possibly the greatest thing ever (if like me, you were a huge dork growing up) click through for his bigger image. This is simply amazing, good work! ...Read this article.
Cyclist Alignment Chart
From the blog: Cyclostat On: 2010-03-20 12:31:53Like any good fan of dungeons and dragons, I view the world through alignment charts. I've given this some thought, and below you will find definitive cyclist alignment chart. I'm betting that one already exists, but this is going to be my version. Click for the full jpeg. [caption id="attachment_338" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="The Cyclist's Alignment Chart"][/caption] Breakdown: Lawful Good: we have a photo of a dorky commuter, upholding the law and wearing ridiculously bright clothing in the middle of the day. It is accompanied by a Shane quote. :) Neutral Good: Perhaps indicative of the more casual rider, who wants to do good in the world, might run a red light or two, might bike on the sidewalk, but is ...Read this article.
03.19.10
From the blog: 100psi On: 2010-03-19 16:55:44A kind of good songwriter once sang, “the waiting is the hardest part.” And how. I finally got to take my new (used) bike out for a proper spin today. I bought it in January, shoes arrived in February, the pedals came in the mail last week, water bottle cages yesterday, and I got fitted at IBC Newton today. It was a beautiful day to ride; I did about 45 miles, and I’m sore as hell. But in a good way. I want to send a shout out to Aleve. There's still flood water on the roads in the 'burbs. I waited for this car to pass: Then I waited for this cyclist to pass: Then I waited for this ...Read this article.
No News is Bad News
From the blog: Zero Combustion On: 2010-03-19 12:19:04After my interview with WBZ News and correspondence with John Houghton of the MBTA, I decided to lay low for a while and observe the outcome of this activity. It is with profound disappointment that I report absolutely no change in the illegal driving activity of the MBTA buses. In the last three weeks I have observed and reported numerous buses running red lights, buses offloading passengers in the middle of the street rather than a designated bus stop, and I have once again been hit by an MBTA bus that did not stop. It has become apparent that nothing is changing, and that accountability is a thing of myth and legend when it comes to the MBTA. What am ...Read this article.
Comments on the River Street and Western Avenue bridges
From the blog: Street Smarts On: 2010-03-19 08:09:06I ride the River Street and Western Avenue frequently on my way between Waltham and Cambridge. The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation plans to reconstruct these bridges. The roadways need repair, and so do the sidewalks, which connect the paths on each side of the river. But also, there are many issues with connections to streets, paths and sidewalks. The Harvard campus expansion involves the construction of paths leading to the bridges, and the University and its consultants (Jacobs Consulting) should be involved in the discussion. General comments There might be the possibility of a through bike lane or shared-lane marking at the Cambridge end of the River Street bridge and Boston end of the Western Avenue bridge to ...Read this article.
Will Our River Crossings Be Bridges or Barriers?
From the blog: Steve Miller's Blog -- II On: 2010-03-17 17:19:42The Charles River is one of the defining features of our region. From the time humans first arrived, we have used it for sustenance, pleasure, and travel. While the basin feels like a refuge of nature in the midst of our urban lives, nearly every inch of the river – from the shore to the deepest channel – has been shaped by human activity. The river and the structures around it need to be managed to preserve their value to the life cycle while maximizing their human functionality. In particular, the bridges over the river can help connect our communities, provide access to the riverbank, and be an aesthetic asset. Or they can make travel difficult, even dangerous, block us ...Read this article.

CycleLoft and Co Comment on the “Transition” at NEV
From the blog: euphoria before total implosion On: 2010-03-18 12:40:41I sort of thought that this was more a PR sheet than an explanation, but perhaps you will read it and disagree. If you take the time to follow the link, I encourage you to leave a comment. I did. ...Read this article.
