Cryptic Announcement From The Mayors Office

Written by Boston Biker on Apr 20

Got this in the email, no more details yet. Could be bike share, could be aliens have landed, could be that they are outlawing car driving…who knows.

I have heard the words “HubWay” floating about the nets and tubes of the bike underground. This might be about about bike share (possibly called “HubWay.”)

We shall see.

Major Bike Announcement
Thursday April 21, 2011
1:30 – 2:00 PM sharp
City Hall Plaza

Dear Friends,

Please join Mayor Menino and Boston Bikes for a major announcement tomorrow, Thursday April 21, 2011 from 1:30-2:00 PM on City Hall Plaza. Since we can’t giveaway the topic of the announcement we can promise free food to everyone with a bicycle. Come enjoy a Boloco burrito, a bit of music and a very cool press announcement.

Feel free to call or email me with any questions. I can be reached at 617-918-4456, [email protected]

Sincerely,

Nicole Freedman

My guess is the Mass Ave bikelanes. Or is that not set in stone yet?

Sharks with laser beams attached to their foreheads roving the city on monster tricycles ticketing cabs for parking in bike lanes.

I hate stuff like this… politicians plying you with free food so when they make THEIR super cool announcement, instead of complaining, you choke on your burrito. Maybe its the cynic in me.

I wouldn’t go if I were all of you. Maybe their plan is to take away all your bikes… what then, huh? :-p

heh I was planning on doing a blue hills ride starting from Govt Center tomorrow @ 2pm. Guess I get to snag a few free burritos for the ride before I roll out. :)

The subject line of the email I got was “Mass Ave Bike Lane Mtg: 4/14 7-9 PM”…not sure if that was a mistake or a hint?

my $ is on bike share. Mass Ave is not big enough of a deal for something like this

but I’d love to see “aggressive ticketing of *motorists* who run red lights”

It’s only being kept a secret to prevent motorist snipers from taking out the Mayor and Boston Bike Czar.

Ride bikes while you still can!

Motorists don’t run red lights, only bicyclists! Ask any Herald commenter!

Wait, if this is about a bike-share program, why free food to those who already have bikes? They’d be the ones least likely to use this program.

  12. By MATTHEW on Apr 21, 2011 | Reply

    called it :-)

@isotope: Getting existing bikers to support the program means they might be more likely to tell their friends about bike share (especially those who are on the fence about trying biking in Boston or those are visiting)
