Tonight, the Boston Cyclists Union is hosting their Second Annual Spring Kickoff Party. Here’s the scoop from the Facebook event page:
———
Order tickets via Eventbrite:
On Thursday, April 25 we’re expecting over 300 guests at our second annual Spring Kickoff party and this year it’s all about the soul of the bike movement. What brought you to where you are today? What got you so all-fired interested in making Boston the best biking city in the world? Where is all that fire coming from?
Be thinking about this as you enjoy free beer, free food, and Northern Soul you can really move to. You know we always throw a good party and this time we’re hoping to pack this venue with people, but keep you’re eyes here or on our Facebook page to hear about our special guests, DJs, beer donors, and food donors as they express their support for a Boston that’s safe for everyone to mount a bike and ride, from 6 years old on up to 97.
If you come, you’ll enjoy free beer from Cambridge Brewing Co. and Boston Beer Co., free food from El Pelon, M&M Ribs, Chow Thai and other awesome local businesses, and you can take a peek at some amazing bikes from Boston Classic Bikes.
You’ll also have a chance to enter the raffle and win a new bike or other gear with a $750 gift certificate from Ashmont Cycles in Dorchester. Before and after a crazy short 15-minute presentation about what we’ve accomplished and the year ahead, join the Soul Dance Party with DJ Trislam and DJ Dandy Dan.

Party To Celebrate Casey Overpass Victory Tonight
Written by Boston Biker on Mar 16got this in the email, looks like a blast. (also free food!)
—————
6:00pm until 9:00pm
JJ Foley’s Fireside Tavern, 30 Hyde Park Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130
Invite your friends in the neighborhood–
Secretary of Transportation Richard Davey has announced the state’s decision to take down the Casey Overpass, and replace it with a 6-lane arterial roadway with traffic flow similar to Melnea Cass Boulevard, and a park the size of Copley Square Plaza.
We invite you to turn the page with us toward a new future for Forest Hills that will help small businesses, make a more inviting area for walkers and bicyclists, and reconnect this gap in the Emerald Necklace. This is a great opportunity also for people on both sides of the debate we all just came through to shake hands and strategize about how we can make this a project all of us will be proud of for the decades to come.
Free appetizers will be available, and drinks are pretty darn affordable at the Fireside. Please join us and support this Forest Hills business.

Ride Studio Cafe Events TONIGHT!
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 11got this in the email, looks like a lot of stuff going on at ride studio cafe.
—————————-
Ride Studio Cafe Hosts the 11-11-11 Exhibit & Ride
What: 11-11-11: The Day Fixed & Singles Took Over
When: Friday, November 11 at 7:30pm ’till 10:00pm. Then a ride from 10:00
– 11:30 pm
Where: Ride Studio Cafe, 1720 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA 02420
Why: We’ve got 18 one-gear works of art on display for Friday evening
only
The Exhibit: One-Gear Rolling Art
See some incredible examples of functional bikes as artistic expressions of
rider passion. The One-Gear exhibit is open to all types of fixed-gear and
single-speed bikes. We’ve got some local bike builders and designers
signed up for the exhibit:
Framebuilders’ bikes on display:
> Geekhouse Bikes – Local favorites and troublemakers
> Honey Bikes – Presenting a stealth commuter: black beauty with a
belt-drive
> Panda Bicycles – A bamboo single
> Royal H Cycles – Agonizing artistry
> Saila Bicycles – Simple and clean custom frames
> Seven Cycles – Local custom bike builder displaying a super-light
titanium belt-drive single and a custom fixie fabricated from titanium and
carbon
> Sketchy Cycles – A rare one-gear with even more rare rabbits
> And a few other local builders!
A few of the impressive “Working Class” singles on display will include:
> Classic stainless steel Ryhgin – extremely rare
> Independent Fabrication “Pixie Fixie”
> Cielo fixie – difficult to find on the East Coast
> Workhorse fixie that’s survived all manner of the harshest New
England weather imaginable
> Creative singlepeed workhorse bike built for the long haul
> And a few other one-off self-made one-gears
The Contest: One-Speed – Fast
Entrants are bringing their favorite one-speed bikes to show in the
exhibit, and to be happily judged by all in attendance. Four categories –
including “Most Creative Solution”, a couple thousand dollars worth of
prizes, and too many cool bikes to fit in the Studio. Sounds good to us!
The Party
Really, it’s all a party. If you’ve been to a Studio gathering before,
you may know what to expect. If you haven’t been to an RSC party before,
please join us for a dynamite time.
Studio Cafe’s infamous hot chocolate and our rarely seen affagatos are
the special drinks of the evening. Yeah, they have some caffeine and sugar
in them but that may be a good thing, so you can raucously participate
in…
The Ride: Rally Rabbit
Okay, really it’s all about the ride. At 10pm sharp we’re heading out
to roll on some of the secret amazing roads, alleys, trails – and some
stuff we don’t even know what to call – within a few miles of the
Studio. The entire 75-minute ride takes place in Lexington proper.
Don’t snicker; it’ll be a ride to remember! We have a few surprises up
our arm-warmers, too.
Get a glimpse of the Grey Nuns. Look upon the Land of the Misfit Toys.
Venture through Youville. Behold THE Belfry – sans bats. Genuflect before
a real life Genie. And endure many other vaunted and haunted gems in our
historied town. Then, at the stroke of 11:11:11 pm we’ll be calling on
the one-gear spirits – both liquid and ephemeral – for good fortune
throughout the coming season.
