This Is What Happens When You Don’t Educate People About Cycling
Written by Boston Biker on Apr 14The town of Madison Wisconsin wanted to start the process of getting a platinum rating from the League of American Bicyclists. 19 out of 20 councilors supported it fully, but not all. The one holdout on the Council, Thuy Pham-Remmele, reeled off a series of ignorant reasons for why cycling just could never work in Madison.
From being fat, to not having a nice bicycle, to snow, she seems to think that cycling just could NEVER work in Madison. I am sure glad the other 19 people on the council don’t hold the same view she has.
It is tempting to think that Boston might be somehow “the worst” when it comes to supporting bicycles, but I think you would be hard pressed to find any official in this town that would publicly say anything even close to this. It doesn’t mean Boston is a bicycle utopia yet, but at least we aren’t still dealing with crap like this.
And as far as snow riding goes, clearly it can be done.
