Party To Celebrate Casey Overpass Victory Tonight
Written by Boston Biker on Mar 16got this in the email, looks like a blast. (also free food!)
—————
6:00pm until 9:00pm
JJ Foley’s Fireside Tavern, 30 Hyde Park Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130
Invite your friends in the neighborhood–
Secretary of Transportation Richard Davey has announced the state’s decision to take down the Casey Overpass, and replace it with a 6-lane arterial roadway with traffic flow similar to Melnea Cass Boulevard, and a park the size of Copley Square Plaza.
We invite you to turn the page with us toward a new future for Forest Hills that will help small businesses, make a more inviting area for walkers and bicyclists, and reconnect this gap in the Emerald Necklace. This is a great opportunity also for people on both sides of the debate we all just came through to shake hands and strategize about how we can make this a project all of us will be proud of for the decades to come.
Free appetizers will be available, and drinks are pretty darn affordable at the Fireside. Please join us and support this Forest Hills business.

Casey Overpass Meeting Location Change
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 16From the email.
————————————-
Don’t miss this important meeting!
Monday, November 21
5:30-6:00pm Open House | 6:00-8:30pm
Public Information Meeting
William Hinton Laboratory-Auditorium,
305 South Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 map>>
This will be the next-to-last public meeting and will present to the public at large the two alternatives from which a final solution must be chosen to go forward into the 25% design phase. As such, it is the most critical meeting in the process so far as it provides the forum for the general public to voice opinion on the two alternatives to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Here is a chance to redefine Forest Hills as not just a place that traffic passes through or a terminus for the MBTA but also as a vital community within Jamaica Plain.
We encourage you to show your support for the at-grade solution and attend the meeting if possible. We also ask that you spread the word about the meeting and let others know how important an issue this is for parks of the Emerald Necklace.
If you cannot attend the meeting, we urge you to send a comment letter in support of reconnecting the Emerald Necklace to:
John Romano at MassDOT ([email protected]) and copy [email protected] and your State Representative.

Casey Overpass Meeting Tonight
Written by Boston Biker on Jun 29From JP Bikes
————————-
At this meeting (note the new location), the team and the working group will present four “ideas” for what could replace the overpass, one of which includes a redesigned overpass, while the other three are at-grade surface options with no overpass. It is important to note that these are “ideas” in that they haven’t been fleshed out with respect to deep analysis of traffic or transit impacts nor may they address all of the concerns of the many interested parties in this process. They also currently are not shown with bike or pedestrian accommodations so clearly they are not finished designs. They are simply sketches of alternate road configurations to generate comments and deeper thinking. That said, it is exciting to visualize potentially workable configurations and the possibilities for the neighborhood that may follow. If you just want a quick look at the ideas, you can just come for the open house from 6-6:30, but the presentation itself will be more informative. Presentations are always posted on the website at http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/caseyoverpass/.
Meeting details:
Wednesday, June 29, 2011
6:00-6:30 PM – Open House
6:30-8:30 PM – Public Information Meeting

Please Comment On Casey Overpass/Forest Hills Bike Access And Safety
Written by Boston Biker on Mar 10got this in the email, I ride through here every single day, and every single day it sucks.
———————————————————-
Do you ride/walk/drive under or over the Casey overpass? Community meetings around the impending removal and replacement of that span are coming soon, so I’d like to use this blog post to solicit comments from JP Bikes members on how they feel about the current effectiveness and safety of that entire multi-road intersection. You are also welcome to comment on how it works as a pedestrian, driver, or transit user. Here are a few questions you can use to get started, but feel free to comment on whatever aspect of the project you want to. Use this link to the blog post to comment:
http://jpbikes.ning.com/profiles/blogs/please-comment-on-casey
(you’ll need to join to comment. Please do! If you would really rather not, you can send your comment to me and I’ll post it)
Do you ride through this intersection regularly? What time and how frequently? From where and to where are you typically going?
In what ways have you optimized your route or your schedule to avoid traffic or other inconvenience?
Do you ride on the sidewalk at any point?
Have you found it useful to ride over the overpass?
If you are going to/coming from the Southwest Corridor path, how do you get there?
Comment on where you see the most traffic backed up
Describe specific dangerous or confusing crossings
Describe any accidents you may have had
Please stay tuned for announcements about meetings. We expect there to be a lot of talk about car traffic and flow, so to advocate for bike accommodations and safety, we need input from as many actual users of that area as possible. Thanks!
