Bay State Bike Week Begins!

Got this great email from Hubway with a whole host of great bike week stuff that is coming up, get out there and ride!

Massachusetts is the only state in the nation with a statewide bike week, and Bay State Bike Week promises to deliver! During the week May 14-22, there will be dozens of events — including workshops, festivals, clinics, commuter rides, and more. With new Hubway stations recently installed and more on the horizon, we hope you’ll join in the Bike Week and Bike Month fun, and pedal with us all summer long!

The Challenge begins Saturday!

The MassCommute Bicycle Challenge promotes cycling as a healthy, inexpensive, and eco-friendly transportation choice. Joining the Challenge is fun, easy and FREE for anyone who lives or works in Massachusetts! Log all of the miles you ride May 14-22 and enjoy some friendly competition between local businesses, universities and communities. Fri, May 20th: Boston’s National Bike to Work Day Festival

Boston Bikes is making it easy to participate in Bike to Work Day with guided morning commuter convoys, leaving from dozens of locations throughout the Boston metro area. Sat, May 21st: The Cambridge Bicycle Committee presents “The Reel Ride”

This guided 2-hour ride will celebrate movies in Cambridge, including the theaters where they’re shown, the locations they’ve featured over the past half century — Love Story, Good Will Hunting, & more — and the people who film them. Preview the sites and get more info here →

Sat, May 21st: Somerville PorchFest

After the Cambridge Reel Ride, pedal over to Somerville to celebrate with more than 400 bands & musicians, playing from porches throughout the city! There will be something for everyone – Bollywood funk, killer blues, Moroccan, Balkan, gospel, American space rock, and more. Hubway Expansion News
New Balance Hubway expanding in Roxbury & Northern Dorchester.
Thanks to the generous support of the Barr Foundation, Boston will add ten new stations in Roxbury and northern Dorchester this summer. The goal is to build a highly-connected bikeshare network in these neighborhoods, so that all residents live within a 5- to 10-minute walk of Hubway. So where will the stations go? Join Boston Bikes on Saturday, May 14th, 10-11:30am, at Dudley Square Library, to talk about what makes a good site and work together to prioritize general locations for new stations.

All four Brookline stations are back
The wait was long, but we’re happy to report you can once again snag a Hubway bike at Brookline Village, Coolidge Corner, Washington Square, and JFK Crossing.

East Somerville’s first station, more to come in Somerville
Broadway at Lombardi Way station in E.Somerville is now open, and four more in Winter Hill & East Somerville are are on their way later this year.

Newbury/Hereford, Kenmore, and Boston Public Library stations return
These three stations have returned in Boston and are fully operational.

Tue, 5/17, 5:45-8pm    Innovation in Transportation: a panel discussion
WeWork, 745 Atlantic Avenue, Boston. A special event presented by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce on the evolving mobility landscape and the future of transportation in Boston.

Tue, 5/17, 6:30-9:30pm    Boston Cyclists Union’s 5-year anniversary party
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, 41 Berkeley St, Boston. Food & drink from your favorite local establishments, raffle prizes, and dancing into the night to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work going towards making biking better in the Boston region! Tickets include a 1-year membership to the Bike Union!

Tue, 5/17, 7-9pm    FREE Bike Week Screening – Jour De Fete

Thu, 5/19, 2-3pm or 6-7pm    Healthy Aging in Cambridge – Urban Cycling Basics
Citywide Senior Center, 806 Mass Ave, Cambridge. Workshop geared towards riders aged 50+. Each participant receives a free helmet!

Sun, 5/22, 2-5pm    Somerville Historic Bike Ride
Join the Historic Preservation Committee for a ride along Paul Revere’s famous route. Departing from the Holiday Inn at 30 Washington Street, Somerville.

Fri, 5/27, 8-9am    Bike and Walk Commuter Breakfast
Somerville Bicycle Committee hosts a breakfast at the Whole Foods at 45 Beacon Street, Somerville.
