Awesome Japanese Bike Parking

I could see this working pretty well, but damn thats a lot of money for some bike parking. One of the benefits of bike infrastructure is that it is usually much (much) less expensive. But if you were to achieve enough riders, and needed to put all them bikes someplace this style of system might become feasible here at some point.

This is cool. When I was in Japan several years ago, the town I was in had a sort of Ferris wheel device for parking cars above ground. You drove the car inside a building about 1 car wide and exited the vehicle. The platform the car was on would raise up into the building. This parking for bikes is very clever and would definitely help – there are a LOT of bikes in Japan – the train station bike parking in particular was generally full. It seems like it will be a long time before we see this in Boston – the volume of bikes is ‘t anywhere close to the same.
