One Possible Taste Of The Future
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 23This is a short clip from a longer documentary called Beauty and the Bike which explores why girls in England stop riding their bicycles. I found it pretty awesome. It seems that whenever European cycling is mentioned in America everyone gets in a huff about one of a number of things (helmet use, cycle tracks, etc etc). I am sure that our future is on the bicycle, I am not sure our future is following the European Model (Capitial E Capital M!), but we could learn some things from the Europeans.
Either way great movie.

Wow, that landed somewhere between an infomercial for a machine that works out your abs, and an educational video from the early ’90s.
For the sake of cycling, I sincerely hope that this video never reaches the general populous and the direction is put down.
And yes, I am assuming that the director may be some sort of non-human primate, like a macaque, or a slow loris.

I love all those beautiful bicycles! Those Dutch city bikes look great and are so practical for commuting, too. Something like that would be so much better than what I have now.

This is a very important component of what cycling advocacy should look like in the states. BnB’s Girls in Action is the closest thing to it around here, but it would be powerful if those girls got involved in advocacy, wouldn’t it?
I’m not aware of the latest latest on these figures, but last time I checked around 76% of all cyclists in the U.S. were males. To me that is a really sad thing. We need to make our roads safer so that all can ride, all ages, all genders, everyone.
