That bike lane was always a tad strange. Basically, it started at that point because the street behind it was part of the Kenmore project (MBTA) while everything in front of it was city/state/BU comm ave beautification project.
Kenmore eventually got a last minute lane, comm ave got a lane, but that small missing piece did not.
I hope they did the inbound side as well – a bike lane vanished when they fixed the paving.

I went by kenmore square today. The lines end where MBTA property ends. Both sides of comm ave in both directions have been painted, as has beacon street. This is not a city bike lane, it’s an MBTA bike lane.
