Volunteer Tuesday Oct 11 – Important Bike Counts For Neponset Greenway Grant

Written by Boston Biker on Oct 07

——————-

Hi Dot Bikers,

DCR is submitting a federal grant application to try to get $10 million dollars to close the remaining gaps in the Neponset Greenway/Harbor Walk trail system. This includes the section between Tenean Beach and UMass Boston (we call this the Dorchester Coast Trail project on dotbike.org) and the section from the current end of the trail to Mattapan Square. If the money is granted it will mean a continuous off road path along the Dorchester Coast and Neponset River from Castle Island to Hyde Park.

Current usage stats will help to strengthen the application and there isn’t much data out there. The Boston Cyclists Union is organizing a one day counting blitz next Tuesday Oct 11th. We need people to count a five different locations during the morning and evening rush hour periods (the grant proposal needs to emphasize commuting via the trail).

If you can volunteer this Tuesday go to this survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8LXGKYJ to see the times and locations for the counts and sign up for a shift or two.

Thanks!

Made these lovely RTJ fist and gun pin set. Hand carved in wax, and then cast in lead free pewter.  Because these are made by hand you can do fun things like add an extra small pin so that they sit just so (also means they have “customized” brass back plates to accommodate the extra […]
