Join Dot Bike for Bike Week in Dorchester May 14th – 21st
Start off Bike Week on Saturday May 14th by exploring some of the jewels of the Emerald Necklace by bike from 10:30 – 12:30. Meet at the Franklin Park Club House. The ride will be at a relaxed pace and involve both road and path riding. After the ride head on over to the Bike and Kite festival in Franklin Park from 12 – 4 p.m. an event sponsored by the Franklin Park Coalition, Boston Bikes and Boston Centers for Youth and Families. There will be free bike rentals, rides in the park and other activities including kite flying
Start the workweek off right by riding down to Ashmont Cycles in Peabody Square (551 Talbot Ave.) on Monday May 16th for the Ashmont Cycles/Dot Bike commuter breakfast. Stop by on your bike anytime between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. and get some eats to energize you for your ride to work.
Want to learn how to fix a flat, change a tube and other basic adjustments for your bike to make it just so? Join Jack the owner of Ashmont Cycle at his shop for a free fix-a-flat workshop on Tuesday May 17th at 6:15 p.m. Give him a call at 617-282-6552 with questions or to let him know you’re coming.
Join the Ashmont Cycle shop ride on Wednesday May 18th at 6:00 p.m. All riders are welcome and we’ll break into different groups based on rider speeds and abilities. For this bike week shop ride you’ll have an option to do a mostly flat ride partially on the Neponset bike path or hammer away in the Blue Hills for short or long loops depending on how you feel. After the ride meet up back at the Ashmont Grill for food and drink with other riders.
Thursday morning May 19th from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. is another Dot Bike Commuter Breakfast in Edward Everett Square at the Pear. Stop by for some tasty treats.
Friday May 20th is the first Boston Bike Friday of the season with the Mayor’s bike fest on City Hall Plaza. Join the Dorchester convoy as we ride up Dot Ave. to City Hall Plaza. We start at 7:00 a.m. in Peabody Square in front of Ashmont Cycle or you can meet up with us at Fields corner (intersection of Adams St. and Dot Ave.) at 7:10.
To close out Bike week join Dot Bike, Boston Cyclists Union and Boston Natural Areas Network for a Dorchester Coast Trail exploration ride on Saturday May 21st at 2:00 p.m. We’ll look at the options for connecting the Neponset Greenway to the Harbor Walk outlined in a report produced by Tufts University UEP graduate students for the DCR. Meet at Pope John Paul II park at the parking area near the playground.
Also on May 21st from 12 – 4 p.m. is the first Bikes-not-Bombs Open Bicycle Repair Clinic at BNBs new warehouse space in Dorchester’s Four Corners area (10 Harvard Street). This will be a recurring event every third Saturday of the month per month time for you to get free mechanics time and bike advice.
