Welcome To Boston (Open Thread)
Written by Boston Biker on Mar 07We have a saying in Michigan (where I sprang forth from a giant corn field), “if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes.” I think there is something very similar here, when you talk about the weather here people often say “welcome to Boston…” Implying that this sort of sloppy shit is just the price you pay for living at the Hub of the Universe.
So welcome to Boston everyone, t-shirt and shorts into work, full winter kit on the way home. Plus its raining! WEEEEE!
I opted for just bringing my rain gear, and hoping its non-breathing rubber suit like nature will keep me warm on the way home. I will let you know.
At least it isn’t February anymore. How was your ride today?

Hate to break it to you but your quote, in it’s original form, was originally quoted by Mark Twain about New England weather, not Michigan.

I biked this morning. It was great. I was sweaty but mostly because I took the time to chop up an icy snowbank before I left while in my cycling gear. Haven’t tried to bike home yet, but I packed my rain gear and my mountaineering mittens.

Rain gear in the morning (I can’t change at work so I have to keep off the splashes), rain gear over fleece jacket plus mittens in the evening. I wasn’t cold coming home, but I did almost get knocked over by the wind!

@TonyO: I have the cheap stuff from REI, but it’s till about $150 for the set. Sierra Designs Hurricane is the brand, and it works pretty well. Breathable, seam-sealed, waterproof, and *relatively* cheap. The build quality isn’t the best, but it gets the job done. Maybe the more expensive stuff is more comfortable and would last longer, but I’ve had my set for four years now and they’re fine. Only had to wash them with the re-waterproofing stuff once.

Campmor is also a good place to buy cheap. Sometimes you can get good brands if you’re lucky and they have your size: http://www.campmor.com/outerwear/men/rainwear.shtml
