New Bike Lanes In Roslindale
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 22Got this in the email, any got pics or can confirm? Thanks Robert for the tip.

If I read the markings correctly, it looks like they are about to mark bike lanes on Center St, Roslindale, between the West Roxbury Parkway and Weld St.
ps. I am working on a project to allow all of us to work on a Boston bike map…does anyone know any collaborative mapping tools (other than google maps?)

they redid centre street from weld in Roslindale to the rotary in West Roxbury. The ghosts of the traffic lines have been sketched in and there are definitely going to be bike lanes. I’m going for a ride later today, I’ll try to get photos.

woohoo! maybe I’ll ride home that direction and take a look.
Centre’s really wide anyway, but it’ll be a nice touch.
I’m sure the rush is on to paint bike lanes before Nicole’s December update!!

Grabbed this shot which shows the lane flowing to the left to allow cars to turn right on Weld St.

Look into OpenStreetMap for collaborative mapping; it is an online wiki-style map of the world, the data behind it is editable open to all. See http://openstreetmap.org and for more detail, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cycle_routes for examples of how bicycle facilities are mapped.

Can’t hurt to have bike lanes along this stretch, although I’ve never thought they were really necessary.
Where I would very much like to see new striping for bikes is the southeastern approach on Centre from Faulkner leading up to the VFW Parkway. This has always seemed to be the most dangerous spot on my route.

+1 on that. 1/5 times I ride down Centre I get lucky and that stretch is void of cars but the rest of the time it’s a struggle to stay on Centre without getting killed by someone trying to get onto the parkway.
