I really, really, really wish people would wear helmets. I heave read reports regarding this sad story and she apparently was not wearing a helmet.

So sad 🙁 Do they use the victim’s bike for these memorials?

I’m pretty sure that the ghost bikes I have encountered were donated by someone close to the tragedy, not the bike used by the person.
On a personal note, I feel that using the person’s bike might be a bit too macabre, and eventually the city will take down a ghost bike (usually they will leave it up for a time) and I would consider that a desecration to be avoided.
