Show The MBTA That Bikes Are An Integral Part Of Any Future Infrastructure Plans!
Written by Boston Biker on Sep 16Thursday morning at the Alewife T station at 7:30am the new secure bike cages will be opened. The rumor is that some of the MBTA higher-ups are not “fully on board” with this whole “bike thing”. So lets show them whats what. Get your bike, and ride it over to the Alewife and park that bad boy in the new bike cage. Lets pack this thing on the first day when the reporters will be on hand to witness the true power of the bicycle! If they get a good response from this set of cages they are much more likely to install them all over.
As an added bonus you get a free, special edition bicycle Charlie card, AND if you have the time you can stick around to see the press hoopla at 10am.
ps. I will be there so you might even catch a glimpse of the elusive Boston Biker in the flesh. And I will have stickers to give out…

Great idea, I’ll try to make it there! Sadly, it’s so typical of the MBTA upper management to discount the utility of something which won’t pad their pockets.

Wow…the MBTA needs to just be disassembled and have new people brought in. If the higher ups don’t believe in the “bike thing” why the frack are they one of the top sponsors for Hub on Wheels? In fact, why are they sponsoring Hub on Wheels in the first place, haven’t they been in the middle of a fiscal crisis, for the last, 10-15 years?

This rumor is not supported by any facts or what is really going on is very disappointing. Tomorrows event is a sign of collaboration and you want to turn it into some us vs. them nonsense. Grabauskas has been a real champion of the bike community during his 3 years and has raised awareness and access for bikes on the T (how many more bike racks at stations and buses with bikes do you see these days? what about the bike dedicated commuter rail cars?). Apparently you have not been to Alewife for some time, the number of bikes at this station likely matches the number of cars in the garage. These new bike “cages”- offering a dedicated, covered, secured storage environment on real estate that could have been used to park more cars- are another sign of bike support.
