Sometimes We Win!

From the bostonfixed forum:

Today I love the SUV I ran into.

I am on Mass Ave., in the bike lane, near Porter Sq. There is a line of cars to my left stopped at a red light. Dude in line of traffic suddenly opens passenger side door to get out of. I’ve been biking around Boston for 20 years, and this was the closest I have ever come to getting doored. Freaked me the fuck out. I violently swerved to the right to avoid getting hit. I somewhat loose control, and the right end of my bullhorn hits against a SUV parked on the side of the road. It leaves a pretty nasty gouge/scratch in the side of SUV. I manage to come to upright stop, and see guy get out of the SUV and start screaming. I am thinking, “Oh great, I almost get doored and now this guy is going to have a hissy on me.” Then I start listening to what he is saying, “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? YOU DIDN’T EVEN LOOK WHEN YOU OPENED YOUR DOOR AND COULD HAVE KILLED THAT GUY ON THE BIKE! AND YOU CUASED HIM TO FUCK-UP THE SIDE OF MY CAR. (he then points to me) HE IS NOT PAYING THIS DAMAGE YOU ARE!” I was speechless. SUV-guy is NOT flipping out on me, but on the car-guy who almost doored me! Apparently SUV-guy had seen then whole thing happen in his driver-side rear view mirror (he was looking to see he could pull out into traffic). I watched them banter for a bit, and then rode off.
