Help Newton Draw Up Their Bike Master Plan

Written by Boston Biker on Jan 16

Got this in the email, if you can give them a hand please do!

—————–

Next Tuesday from 6:30-8:30pm in the cafeteria of Newton City Hall the Newton Bicycle Advisory Committee in conjunction with MassGIS and others will be hosting a mapping workshop to geocode parking data for Newton.  This data will be used for an algorithm under development by a former Northeastern Engineering student that ranks bicycle routes based on a number of factors and compares them to a base line of bicycle comfort levels.  This ranking will be used to evaluate current Bicycle Master Plan routes and identify ways to make them more comfortable and appealing (separation, eliminate parking, lower speeds etc.)

It will also be used by the city and integrated into their GIS data. We would love to have anybody interested in mapping or cycling to attend. Editing will be via OpenStreets Map and training will be provided by MassGIS.  A laptop or tablet with wifi is all that is needed. We will have food for the evening so need RSVP’s if possible using the following link: http://bit.ly/LgCyvE more information can be found here: http://village14.com/netwon-ma/2014/01/newton-mapping-party/
