New Globe Editor Brian McGrory Hates Cyclists
Written by Boston Biker on Dec 20
Oh great, of all the people who could have taken over as editor for the globe this guy had to take the reigns.
As Mayor Tom Menino prepares to roll out an ambitious bicycle-sharing program on the streets of our great city this month, offering hundreds of bikes for short-term rental all across town, I might urge him to go in a slightly different direction.
He ought to ban all bicyclists from Boston instead.
Ban them as in, here’s the city line, Lance, there’s a bike rack. Lock it up, and flag yourself a nice air-conditioned cab. Maybe you won’t be sweating so much when you walk into work.
That’s right, the new editor of the globe is known bike hater, and all together irrational and misguided man, Brian McGory
We can only hope the globe doesn’t become another useless rag that spends a large part of its time “defending” cars, and touting cyclists as the scourge of the city.
(thanks Sean for the heads up)

Who cares? Newspapers are dead, and he’s just being deliberately contrarian to try and get page-views from a demographic that print media never really had in the first place.

Nothing says “fair and balanced editor” like an agenda!

McGory is entitled to his views, but if that’s the best opinion piece he can write, he probably can’t figure out how to ride a bike himself.
How about if McGory ever sweats at his job, he resigns so as to be consistent.
What will he say next? Ban the Celtics because they spit on the floor?

Jay is right – papers are dead. The Globe on paper is horrible, and expensive; and now they’ve paywalled the web site, so we’re spared having to read it online.
Just spread the word – no cyclist should ever give the Globe any money. We all know that they’re going to die; let’s just help to make it a quick death.

I think we need cyclists to go to the globe’s Contact Us page and let the globe know that you will not buy another copy (or will cancel your subscription) unless McGrory writes an apology for writing such a one sided, inflammatory and, frankly, childish article

Someone in his position should know better.

Their website still has pop-up adds. What is this, 1998?

OH, NO! The last thing we need is a bike hater. This city needs to move forward on bike friendliness.

I was about to post scathing remarks after reading the article & links above… but I decided to do a little bit more research to see whats up with this guy. He did post a decent article about Christopher Weigl, the young cyclist who was killed on Comm Ave recently.

I suspect this writes about whatever seems hot at the moment and has no authentic convictions or backbone.
