Written by Boston Biker on Oct 21Can someone more familiar with the way city government look take a look at this and tell me what it means?

ORIGINAL ORDER
IN CITY COUNCIL
October 17, 2011
VICE MAYOR DAVISWHEREAS:
Brakeless bikes are an extreme public safety hazard; now therefore be itORDERED:
That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to instruct the City Solicitor to prepare language for an ordinance to ban the use of brakeless bikes in Cambridge.
What it looks like to me is that they are trying to ban brakeless fixed gears…but who knows. Also will this effect people from the surrounding communities that ride into Cambridge. Or as one wise man put it:
“Well, well, well… Looks like we got us a city boy from Boston. Now they may tolerate that kind of foolishness out there on the bad side of the river, but we don’t coddle no brakeless moving machines around here, boy.”
This obviously raises more questions than it answers. Does this mean Penny Farthings are out, can you still ride your track bike if you are really good at skid stopping, will just a front break suffice, what about old bikes where the breaks don’t work very well….the questions, they multiply by the minute.
