CAMBRIDGE – Are you passionate about helping people explore and use sustainable transportation? Do you like working creatively and in collaboration with others? Would you like to help promote a positive and powerful environmental and public health initiative, and better know your city, hundreds of key players and decision-makers, employers and other citizens of all ages?
Overview: The City-Wide Walk/Ride Day Coordinator develops, oversees, and orchestrates all the Walk/Ride Day involvement, relationships, and activities within the community. The Coordinator is supported by the Green Streets Initiative’s central organization, which provides the coordinator with materials, a website framework, examples, and experienced advisors. The Coordinator organizes the efforts of a network of Walk/Ride Day volunteers who plan Walk/Ride Day activities and communication in their own organizations. Internet, email, and other electronic communication are combined with in-person communication and gatherings. The Coordinator will work with the community’s ongoing environmental, health, safety, and educational programs and help focus programs to address community concerns within the Walk/Ride Day framework. The Coordinator is responsible for the following:
1) Establishing ongoing relationships, recruiting and empowering volunteer coordinators, and developing incentives that will generate interest and excitement in Walk/Ride Day Program in groups throughout the community, including:
· Schools, workplaces, and other organizations and locales where people gather and spend time
· Environmental, government, business, health, religious, community, human service and other organizations
· Retail sponsors
· City officials and staff
2) Preparing for and reporting back on monthly Walk/Ride Days, including:
· Developing new information and updates to the website
· Reaching out to community calendars and press
· Preparing e-newsletters
· Developing events and publications that will target and interest under-served groups
· Designing, administering, and analyzing surveys to measure the impact of Walk/Ride Days
· Administering check-in/raffle
3) Working with other members of Green Streets team, including Coordinators of other communities, to continue to create a replicable system, including:
· Creating marketing and educational materials for outreach
· Planning for and reflecting on completed Green Streets work
The person stepping into the City-Wide Coordinator role needs to be an enthusiastic user and proponent of active transportation. He or she should have a sense of adventure, flexibility, the ability to multi-task, and ability to respond quickly to the needs of others. The Coordinator will need to work evenings and weekends
FUNDING: This contract position is part time and the assumed time commitment is 20-30 hours/week. Start date: October, 2011.
