Do You Bike To Work?

Written by Boston Biker on Feb 19

Some students want to talk to you!

From the email:

“We are a group of students taking a class called UOCD at Olin College, or “user oriented collaborative design” where we work with a people group to conceptually design some sort of product or service specifically for the user group. We are not conducting a research study or making a finished product, we just want to learn more about our user group so that we can design something for our class.

My group is interested in people who bike to work. If you are a person who bikes to work, it would be great if we could have a phone interview or even better if we can talk to you in person (we can come to boston). We assure you that everything we talk about will be confidential and used just for the class. For privacy, we will absolutely keep you anonymous in our notes.

If you are interested, please email me at [email protected] or contact me at 510-542-7037. We would greatly appreciate your input.”

City Councilor Felix Arroyo Will Ride His Bike To Support Bike Safety, Join Him!

Written by Boston Biker on Dec 05

Bostinno reports: “City Councilor Felix Arroyo will take two-wheels to work at Government Center Thursday in order to raise awareness about the need for safe cycling in the Hub—and he wants residents to join him.”

Arroyo’s bike trek from the Forest Hills MBTA Station to City Hall at 8 a.m. will come just hours before a meeting between elected officials about the importance of making Boston a “world class” bike city; one that’s safe for those who choose to skip the T and opt out of hopping behind the wheel in order to get around.

“We have many cyclists in our city and it is our responsibility to ensure that we make our city as safe as possible for cycling,” Arroyo said in a statement. “I am asking for people to join me on my bike ride to work to bring attention to the issue. The hope is that the ride and the hearing will result in improvements that will prevent cycling injuries, sometimes fatal, from happening on our streets.”

Last month, Arroyo and City Councilor Ayanna Pressley filed a motion for a hearing to explore ways to improve bike infrastructure in Boston and make it a more “liveable city.”

I don’t have more details, but I imagine that if you show up at forest hills t-stop at 7:30am you can ride your bike to city hall with Arroyo. Fun!

Every street should be safe for walking and bicycling.  This is an essential component of the Complete Streets design philosophy that has emerged in recent years as the “new normal” for roads – although the gap between policy and practice often remains wide.   Because the core issue is mobility, Advocates compliment this “everywhere for everyone” […]
