Update From JPBikes

Written by Boston Biker on Jul 26

got this in the email, full of great stuff going on in JP.

——————-

Hey JP Bikers,

Here’s an updated list of what JP Bikers might be interested in doing. Special plug for our own North Shore ride, the coastal route from Rockport is a ride you’ll want to do again and again. I also recommend the Roxbury rides (I’m going tomorrow), since it’s good for JP to support anything our close neighbor Roxbury is doing to encourage cycling.

Friday, July 30 – Boston Bike Friday Ride
Monthly ride to City Hall with the JP “convoy”. Leaves Curtis Hall at 7:00am and stops at Hyde Sq. at 7:10. www.bikefridays.org.

Saturday August 7 – JP Bikes ride to Singing Beach and the North Shore
This is our North Shore ride where some riders take the MBTA “bike train” to Rockport and ride back to Singing Beach in Manchester, while others ride from JP to Manchester. We’ll have lunch and go for a swim before taking the 2:21 train back. Meet at Ferris Wheels at 9:00 am or, for train riders, meet us at North Station at 10 am in time for the 10:15 train. For details and updates, see our event listing.

Also Saturday August 7, 10-12 – Discover Roxbury Ride series presents “Radical Roxbury”.
This tour will explore the more radical side of Roxbury’s history. We’ll begin at Roxbury Crossing with the relatively well-known protests against the construction of I-95 along the Southwest Corridor. From there our attention will focus on mid-20th century revolutionary leaders Martin Luther King, Jr and Malcolm X. After passing the former locations of the Black Panthers and SNCC, we’ll end with an overview of the 1967 and 1968 riots in Grove Hall and the police staging grounds in Franklin Park. Helmets are required. Meet at Roxbury Crossing T-station.
Tickets are $5.

Saturday, August 14, midnight-sunrise – Twenty-second Annual Midnight Bike Ride
Meet at *11:15pm* in front of Trinity Church in Copley Square
Tour of Architectural and Historic Sites. Bring a bicycle with a light and wear something reflective; helmet recommended. Commemorative T-shirts available. Bring something for pot luck breakfast Sunday in Christopher Columbus Park. Please bring a spare inner tube that fits your tires. Sponsored by the Back Bay Midnight Pedalers

Please let me know of any corrections, deletions, or additions. Check out our calendar at www.jpbikes.org, which I’ll try and keep up to date!

Next JP Bikes Meeting

Written by Boston Biker on Mar 02

JP BIKES Meeting March 10th, check it out!

The next meeting of JP Bikes is Tuesday March 10th, at 7 pm, at the Aggassiz School in Jamaica Plain. This group is for cyclists to organize with each other in our neighborhoods, to deal with local issues of concern to cyclists, organize rides and events, and build the cycling culture!

This meeting is a great time for new folks to check out JP Bikes and try out getting involved. We’ll hear the activity and progress from each committee (like the Spring Ride Committee, and the Media Committee) and give feedback about the direction it’s all going. Time to plan out the next couple of months and look to the summer riding season.

Contact [email protected]. You can join the Google group for JP Bikes here or check out their blog here
