Chainlynx Ladies Group Ride
Written by Boston Biker on May 30| June 1, 2012

From Superb
—————–
We tried this two months ago, but the weather *seems* to be more stable. So let’s celebrate the best way we know…bike rides.
This week: Chainlynx. A lady-oriented group ride which willl depart this Friday, 6:30 PM, from Superb at 842 Beacon Street.
Here are some frequently asked questions/concerns and their answers:
“I don’t ride a fixed gear! Can I still come?”
OH MY GOODNESS OF COURSE! This is, I will repeat NOT A FIXED GEAR/ROAD BIKE RIDE. Come as you are with the trusty steel (or aluminum, or carbon or Ti) steed of your choice, and we will ride to our destination.
“I’m not fast and in shape..I don’t know if I should do it!”
This ride’s pace is contingent on the participants. This is about getting people on bikes, hanging out and having a good time. If it’s been awhile since you’ve ridden, no worries. Conversely, if you’re a speed demon who feels the need for speed all the time and needs a quick paced ride, this probably isn’t the ride for you.
“How many miles are we riding?”
Excellent question! This ride is geared to be more like 10-15 miles, with our destination being about 6-7 miles away from Superb. That way we can stop, get our snack on, and then head back. If you ever have any suggestions, let me know. This week it’s Castle Island, but next month’s destination has yet to be determined.
“But I don’t know anyone who is going!”
This ride started out in response to a vocalized desire to meet more lady cyclists. By the end of the ride you’ll know everyone! If that still weirds you out, stop by the shop on Thursday, say hi, introduce yourself. That way, you’ll know me!
Not a lady and a little bummed you don’t get to go on a group city ride? Well, you’re in luck. Within the next two weeks we’ll be starting up another unisex group ride geared towards city cycling. Feel free to give us suggestions or recommended dates/times. Again, this bike ride is for EVERYONE! We want to make sure its as convenient as possible!

Door 3 Gallery Opening June 7th FREE – 7-9pm
Written by Boston Biker on Jun 04| June 7, 2012
| 7:00 pm | to | 9:00 pm |
Thursday, June 7th
7-9pm
Door 3 Gallery is proud to host this month’s multi-talented artist – David Michael Curry.
He will be showing photographs from his series Observations and Little Histories.
“Looking and listening is as much a compulsion as it is a lifestyle choice for me.
In art school, I specialized in billiards and beer, skateboards and weird music, but I also learned about seeing from photographer Abelardo Morell, filmmakers Saul Levine and Luther Price, and my Dad Justin, a lifelong painter and educator in art.
In my photography, I look for the history of things, up close.
I see beauty in decay and have the ADHD superpower of noticing the little things and finding a personal poetry about them, like an observational osmosis translated to an internal collage of tangents, fragments, and stories.
Sometimes I am lucky enough to travel the world to play music, and I always bring my camera.
I also love bicycles. PLEASE RIDE ONE!
These photographs are printed small, especially for the Door 3 Gallery’s miniature scale.”
For more of David Michael Curry’s work and music check out his website:
www.emptyhousecooperative.blogspot.com
David is a talented musician; playing viola in rock, “alt-country” & improvisational groups, including Empty House Cooperative, Animal Hospital Ensemble, Thalia Zedek, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Drew O’Doherty, and lots of others…
Empty House Cooperative is improvised music with DMC and friends, most often including Jonah Sacks, Thalia Zedek, Chris Brokaw, and others.
That’s not all folks… he also rides with SCUL and builds his own choppers…. and knows a thing or two about cigars!
Come out, meet and greet, you won’t be disappointed!
The usual dainties will be served.
If you can’t make the party – you can redeem yourself by visiting throughout the month of June to view the show in Broadway’s very own Door 3 Gallery – open during normal shop hours! Show is up till July 2nd!

Written by Boston Biker on May 25| June 10, 2012
| 10:00 am |
Got this in the email, looks like fun if you are into jewish history (and might be a chance to score some good food also!)
———————————-
Boston Jewish History Bike Ride Sunday June 10th
This is a Boston Cyclists Union Ride
Co-Sponsored by the Jewish Labor Committee, the Workmen’s Circle, the
Franklin Park Coalition, Kahal B’Raira and the Dorchester Historical
Society,
Location:
Franklin Park Zoo, at the Giraffe entrance
1 Park Road
Meet at 10 AM. This is an all-day ride. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch, so
bring some food along. Helmets Required. Steady rain cancels.
What: From the turn of the 20th Century into the 1960’s, the largest
Jewish community in New England was located in Roxbury, Dorchester, and
Mattapan.
Come join us as we explore the Jewish history of those neighborhoods.
We’ll see the synagogues and homes, Hebrew Schools and the original Hebrew
College, the Young Men’s Hebrew Association (the other “Y”) and the
Home for Destitute Jewish Children, Jewish Memorial Hospital (located on the
site of the original Beth Israel Hospital), the Workmen’s Circle building
next to the Franklin Park Theater (performances in Yiddish), and places to
get food, like Kosher butchers, delicatessens and the largest Kosher
catering hall in New England (it wouldn’t be Jewish without places to get
a corned-beef sandwich).
We’ll also talk about how and why the Jewish community of Roxbury,
Dorchester, and Mattapan evolved, and answer questions such as: why were the
3 Orthodox synagogues across from each other on Woodrow Avenue?
We’ll meet in Franklin Park, at the Giraffe entrance to the Zoo (off
Seaver Street, across from Schoolboy Stadium).
The ride is about 12 miles and most of it is pretty flat and level (although
we will climb over the top of Elm Hill.
This is a Boston Cyclists Union Ride; Helmets Required; steady rail
cancels.
