New England Track Championships – August 5th & 6th
Via Bostonfixed
Next Tuesday and Wednesday (august 5th & 6th) are the new england track championships at the new england velodrome in Londonderry, NH. Tuesday is for A,B riders and Wednesday is C,D and women.
Gates open at 4, racing starts at six.
Events are a match sprint, kilo, and a points race. it’s an omnium set-up – you score points in each race that you place in, and whoever has the most points at the end of the night wins for the category. top four finishers get points – 1st gets 5, 2nd 3, 3rd 2 and 4th 1.
YOU SHOULD COME.
it’s really awesome that Tony, Laurie, Dick Ring and whoever else involved are pulling together a New England championship. you can go race other regional champs. and feel fancy. we should support this. we’re part of small niche of people that already own track bikes and we should be reppin’ harder. Rides can be worked out, and usually depart around 3/3.30. post up if you want to go and which night you would be going. (go to forum to actually post)
Just think. YOU could be a new england champion by this time next week!
Sounds like a fun time, you should all go check it out.

In 1989 The Back Bay Midnight Pedalers started making an annual tour of historic and architectural sites in the Boston area. The ride usually occurs in mid-to-late August, beginning just before midnight on a Saturday night and running until a little after sunrise on Sunday. The ride route and length varies, but is usually around 30 miles.

No pictures from the August 20, 2006 ride — too much rain, not enough photogenic things.
Ham radio operators who are interested in helping with communication should contact jweiss at mit.edu.
Information on the 2008 ride was recently mailed out. From that flyer:

Mass BikePike Tour: August 14 –17, 2008
The goal of this annual multi-day ride across the state is to celebrate cycling in the Commonwealth. Join us for all the excitement as we explore Massachusetts, coasting through the beautiful countryside of rolling fields, majestic woods, and picturesque towns. This year, the tour begins in Lincoln and ends as we parade down Main Street in the bustling city of Northampton, a center of the region’s thriving crafts and music scene. Proceeds from the Mass BikePike Tour benefit MassBike! Discounted registration is available thru the end of January.
The ride is limited to 100 cyclists, so register today!
For more info on registration, the routes, ride planning, etc., click here.
Ride Leaders Needed! The Mass BikePike Tour is also looking for volunteer rider leaders. In return, your registration fee will be waived and you may be eligible for some great giveaways. In order to qualify, you must have experience leading rides, be available for all 4 days, and be able ride or drive the routes prior to the tour. If you are interested, contact Bruce Lederer at [email protected]
