Written by Boston Biker on May 13There is so much awesomeness in this video I can hardly stand it. Be sure to watch to the end for some amazing footage of what once was, and what will be once again.

That was a pretty sweet video.
One thing it drives home for me is a few of the similarities between bicycles and cars. In some ways, the bicycle made the car possible. Bicycles are inherently products of the industrial era. Tubing, rubber, precision interchangeable parts, etc. require an industrial infrastructure. Bicycles were the first mass produced means of individual transportation. And the first to need smooth graded roadways.
Capitalists found the car way more profitable though. Selling fuel is the key. By convincing people cars were more desirable than bicycles, the oil companies turned every person in the whole damn country into their customers.

It’s a great film, but I’m sure glad the age of the cottered crank is over: they were a royal pain.

Cottered cranks are great as long as one has high quality cotters and a cotter press.

This video is great. I’d love to see a something showing the production of a modern bicycle.
