Boston Marathon Bike Rides!

Written by Boston Biker on Apr 11

Its almost that time again, time for the annual boston marathon bike ride. Get up really early, leave boston well before 7am, when you get to the start line turn around and bomb back, you will be greeted with a totally open race course, no cars, no traffic. Its a great time, and I recommend everyone do it at least once in their life. You can read about me doing it a couple years ago here, and more about past rides here and here (a lot of these happen every year).

There is also a Midnight Marathon ride, that leaves boston the night before the marathon and rides back in the dark, also fun, but a totally different experience.

A spokesman from the Boston Marathon came to the Brookline Bicycle Advisory Committee a few months ago to get the word out that they, the organizers, would like cyclists to leave the starting area in Hopkinton by or before 9:30am. Personally I doubt that I could ride out & back on my bike but for us slow riders it’s fun to just ride down Beacon from Cleveland Circle to the finish line long before the runners & wheelchair racers come.

THe BAA informed MassBike a few days ago of a major change. The marathon course will be closed at the Hopkinton/Ashland line at 7:30am, so all cyclists need to depart Hopkinton by 7:15am. Check the MassBike Facebook page.
