New “Pedal & Park” Coming To Ashmont Station

Written by Boston Biker on Oct 05

More great news from DotBike, new bike cage aka “pedal and park” is getting installed at Ashmont.

Hi DotBikers,

Just wanted to update you on some news on one of our advocacy fronts. The MBTA has slotted Ashmont station as the location for one of six new secured ‘Pedal & Park’ facilities to be installed on their system.

The T has received stimulus money that will allow construction 6 new secured facilities (i.e. cameras and card only access) as well as some canopies that will provide racks under roofs but no walls. DotBike and others have been working to make sure that at least one Dorchester station was selected for a secured “Pedal & Park” facility and Ashmont station was chosen.

The T has committed to installing the Ashmont facility in conjunction with the completion of the station and have consulted with neighboring civic groups and the original station architects to ensure that the facility will be designed to integrate well with the station.

The facility will have secured space for approximately 80 bicycles along with some additional outdoor racks and will be located near Dorchester Ave. at the southern end of the station.

The design is currently being finalized and construction is slated for next spring with a completion date of late June or early July.

cheers,
DotBike
