I was recently in Portland for a Linux conference. They have bike lanes IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD (far away from any parked cars). Cars are forced off to the left side, with bikes being given preference. It’s awesome!

I actually think the most constructive piece of that video was “bicycle boulevards.” Although this practice might be an avoidance of the issue of congestion and road-sharing (and sports a straight corny name) it is relatively cost-efficient and seems like it would be effective safety measure.
