Help Bikes Not Bombs Send Bikes To Tanzania
Written by Boston Biker on Sep 21Got this in the email today, I love BNB, and you should to. Get that old bike out of the basement and if you are not going to ride it anymore give it to BNB!

Bikes Not Bombs is in need of donated bikes very soon to fill out an upcoming shipment to Tanzania. If you or people you know have adult bikes of any type to donate, please donate them by next Saturday, September 26th!
*THE PROJECT IN TANZANIA*
This shipment will be going to the Global Alliance for Africa’s Vijana Center in Arusha, Tanzania. The Vijana Center is a vocational training school for 200 students who were orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. The bike shop uses these donated bikes to fund 90% of the budget for the entire school, in addition to employing mechanics and providing affordable transportation to the surrounding community.
*WHAT TO DONATE*
For this shipment we are especially in need of more adult bikes which have fatter tires – basically mountain bikes or hybrids or similar. But we will take all of the following, some of which would wait for future shipments:
- any bikes with wheel size of 16″ diameter or larger. (16″ wheels are a small BMX or a medium sized kid’s bike.)
- any bike tools or bike parts: wheels, frames, small parts etc
- any bike accessories: helmets, racks, bags, trailers, etc
We don’t want bikes that have been left outside in the weather for multiple years and are covered in rust. Some rust is fine, of course.
*WHERE & WHEN TO DONATE*
a) on a weekday, bring bikes to the Bikes Not Bombs Hub, 284 Amory Street, 02130. Call 617-522-0222 before coming over.
b) or on a weekend, bring bikes to the Bikes Not Bombs Bike Shop at 18 Bartlett Sq (aka Brookside Ave Extension, across from the Green St T station) 02130. Call 617-522-0226 before coming over.
c) If you have 10 or more bikes in one place, we will try to arrange a pickup. Contact us at 617-522-0222.
*TAX DEDUCTIONS*
We are a 501-c3 nonprofit and donations are tax deductible. We give receipts.
(We hope to schedule the actual loading of this shipment for September 27th. We’ll confirm soon!)
Thanks for donating and/or spreading the word!
