Hi Everyone

Solution 101.....build cars with no doors, if you have to build a car at all.
Thank you all in advance. As for the police car, who knows? ....but he did get caught with his pants down. Reminds me of the time I got stopped by police ...."your eyes are all red", he goes, "whatcha been up to". I, of course, replied "smoke gets in your eyes, whatchu been doing, your eyes are all glazed, been eating doughnuts?".

Aw! I took some great shots of this woman in an SUV who spent so much time double parked in the bike lane outside my apartment, that I finally decided to snap a picture - Just for this purpose (sneaky public internet humiliation)! She caught me taking these photos a minute later while she was trying to make an illegal U-Turn(!), and told me she was a paralegal and she was not giving me permission to take her picture. On a public street. I told her she was a terrible paralegal if she thought that was true and asked if she was going to go ahead and make her illegal U-Turn because she was holding up traffic. Then held the camera up to my eye. She screamed at me that she wasn't making a U-Turn, that I had better stop, that she was calling the cops, and then she drove in the correct direction to get away from me after stopping in the middle of the street to yell at me again. A guy in a pick-up truck that had been trying to get around her asked if I had gotten the shot and gave me a thumbs up when I said I had.

As it turns out, I did get some good shots, and a great one of her screaming at me, license plate visible, but the fact that I had publicly humiliated her was enough for me. I deleted the pictures. I recognized her as a repeat offender, and thanks to our little...conversation, I haven't seen her double parked since.

Next time I'll just send them in. Especially since she knows better, now.

I will probably ride outside the bike lane, and will no doubt get yelled at as a result. I beg to differ that riding on the left side of the bike lane is safe enough -- a long car door would cover the whole lane. Also, safe riders give themselves another few feet beyond the maximum door width because even a close call will cause most startled riders to move over a foot or two, perhaps into an equally unsuspecting car. Here is a good safety video on the topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TQ7aID1jHs

It is not hard to ride in a bike lane and avoid the door zone...simply ride over to the left of the bike lane...

If you complain that the bike lane puts you in the door zone, ride outside of it. Bike lanes are to keep cars out, not to keep bikes in. I for one would much rather have a bike lane and ride to the left in it, than have no bike lane at all.

I love the bike lane idea, but is anybody concerned that our new bike lanes force a biker into the door zone? I think I might rather take the lane than trust Boston drivers to look before they open their doors.

while unlikely, it's possible he had a fair reason to double park in the bike lane.
