Using The Iphone For More Than Texting Your Friends
Written by Boston Biker on Nov 07So you know all them cool kids with their Iphones, this has got to be the best possible use I have seen yet for one.
Using a simple ap, and a custom bag addition (more info to come soon), this intrepid biker has created what has to be one of the slickest safety lights yet.
The best part is, the ap is customizable, want it to look like a fire truck, how about a police light, maybe you just want to the light to come on while you move (it can do that as well).
I asked how it is on battery life, and apparently it is not bad. I have seen this working in real life and can tell you it is highly visible from a long ways away.

Pretty sweet, though it’s probably not the best idea to openly display your iPhone like that! Wonder if the biker had anyone in a car try to yank the iPhone…

Excellent idea!!! However, I might want to use that in addition to a flashing red light affixed to the bike at a constant angle. When riding a bike, the angle of he iPhone in a backpack may frequently change and may not be visible at all times.

iPhone is pretty secure in the pocket, don’t think anyone would grab it as quick as you are thinking especially when i’m riding crazy fast!!
the iPhone is more visible than a red light within ranges of 25 feet up to angles of about 130 degrees. the standard bike light is visible from greater distances though. how these play back and forth is interesting and i think varies in different riding environments.
thats why i rock both
