Watch The Tour De France In Dorchester
Written by Boston Biker on Jul 21Do you love the Tour De France? Come on down to the Dot and watch the exciting stage 17! Got this today from a DotBiker.
Hi all,
Come on down to the ASHMONT GRILL this Wednesday night, July 23rd to watch the monster 17th stage of the Tour de France. This stage includes three beyond category climbs – over 15000 feet of climbing ending on the legendary Alpe d’Huez. This will be a very exciting stage with final classification implications. Even if you’re not following the Tour come down for the fun of it and have some great food and drink at the Ashmont Grill, a local business that has been very supportive of DotBike and other community groups.
John Moore, a DotBiker and member of the Blue Hills Cycling Club made arrangements with Chris Douglas, the owner of the Grill, to have the tour showing on the big flat screen near the high tops in the bar area. The coverage starts at 8:00 p.m. but plan on arriving nearer 7:30 to get yourself a good seat.
Thanks John for initiating this fun idea.
cheers,
Andy

Zip Car Low Car Diet Event
Written by Boston Biker on Jul 18Thats right, Zip Car (the handy car rental service) is asking people to stop using cars (including Zip Car’s!).
Got the following from them.
We know that you might be busy with work, errands or underwater macramé class Monday morning, but we wanted to invite you to the kick off of the Low Car Diet Boston at Back Bay Station.
In case you don’t know what LCD is, we’re essentially challenging a select group of new Zipsters to drive less and start walking, biking or T-ing more. Crazy, we know! But we feel very strongly about the concept of living as car-free as possible here in the very walkable (editors note: and bikeable) city of Boston.
Why not come out and show your support of your fellow Zipsters. And of course, if you have a friend that hasn’t signed up for Zipcar yet, bring them out for a special half-off membership fee and have them use the refer a friend program to score $50 in driving credit.
Our laundry list of cool Low Car Diet partners (minus the fabric softener) includes Equinox Fitness, Whole Foods, MBTA, Boston Ski and Sports Club, New England Aquarium, Amtrak and vitaminwater.
The kick-off takes place at the Orange Line’s Back Bay Station at 10am and will last about 45 minutes.
See you Monday morning,
The team at Zipcar Boston

Livable Streets Talk: Dutch Bicycle Company
Written by Boston Biker on Jul 14Livable Streets Alliance Street Talk
with Maria Salve & Dan Sorger of Somerville based, Dutch Bicycle Company
“Dutch Bicycle Company, bringing European standards of practicality, function and utility to cycling in Boston”
Date & Time: Thursday, July 24th, 7:00pm-9:00pm
Location: LivableStreets Alliance office, 100 Sydney Street, Cambridge MA, 02139
Move over track bike; thanks to Dutch Bicycle Company, now there’s a more comfortable ride in town. Importers of handbuilt bicycles that favor comfort and ease over speed, Dutch Bicycle Company wants to change the way you ride and conduct business around the city. With an array of 3-speeds, cruisers, cargo bikes and more, Dutch Bikes feels the age of the bicycle as urban transport has come to the U.S. and they are striving to provide bikes that are up for the task.
We invite you to come and learn how co-owners Maria Salve & Dan Sorger, are brining European standards of practicality, function & utility to cycling in Boston. There is a $5.00 suggested donation; event is open to the public. Beer & soda generously provided by Harpoon Brewery
