Meeting On New “Gateway To The Arborway” Planning Initiative

WHAT: The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will hold a public meeting to discuss the new “Gateway to the Arborway” planning initiative. The plan, developed by DCR in partnership with the Arborway Coalition, addresses improvements for the portion of the Arborway between Murray Circle and the William J. Casey Overpass and includes alternatives for managing the vegetation on the “Arborway Hillside” (between Jamaica Place and Hampstead Road), improving pedestrian and bicycle access from the Casey Overpass to the Arborway, and removing the fencing at the Arboretum crosswalk. The public is encouraged to attend.

    I will not be able to attend this, but i live very close to this area.

    I would love to see an easy way to ride from the Pond to the arboretum. i avoid the casey overpass at all costs, since going down near Forest Hills seems somehow safer and less broken-glass ridden.

    The last point I’d like to make is about the the fencing at the Arboretum crosswalk. I will admit that it’s pretty ugly, but having it there also makes the crosswalk much safer, since people are otherwise inclined to just cut across. As someone who occasionally drives that road, I’d rather not have people coming across willy nilly.
